Over the past few days, we've received a number of comments and messages regarding our dress code policy. We felt it was important to provide some additional context.
Golf courses around the world—whether public, semi-private, or private—have long maintained dress code policies as part of the traditions, etiquette, and professional image of the game. While some facilities are more relaxed and others are more restrictive, virtually every golf course reserves the right to establish and enforce standards for attire on its property.
Our goal is not to exclude anyone from enjoying the game. Rather, our dress code is intended to promote a respectful and welcoming environment while maintaining standards consistent with the game of golf and the expectations of our members and guests.
Many golf courses throughout Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba have dress codes that specifically prohibit items such as workout clothing, tank tops, halter tops, cut-off shorts, excessively short shorts or skirts, denim, muscle shirts, and other attire not considered appropriate golf wear. Some examples include:
• Falcon Lake Golf Course – Appropriate golf attire required. Golf shirts, tailored shorts, golf skorts, and slacks are acceptable.

• Heron Landing Golf Club (Fort Frances) – Requires shirts with sleeves, golf-appropriate footwear, and appropriate-length shorts and skirts.

• Harbour View Golf & Country Club – No tank tops, cut-offs, or sweatpants. Golf attire is expected.

Golf Canada, provincial golf associations, and PGA professionals recognize the right of golf facilities to establish dress and conduct standards that reflect the culture and expectations of their club. Golf Canada championships and many PGA-sanctioned events also maintain dress code requirements for participants.
Golf fashion continues to evolve, and so have we. Our dress code is intentionally designed to be reasonable and relaxed while still maintaining standards that reflect the game and the expectations of our membership. The vast majority of modern golf apparel—including golf shorts, skorts, dresses, joggers, athletic golf wear, and many styles of sleeveless tops—are perfectly acceptable.
We appreciate that not everyone will agree on where the line should be drawn. However, dress codes remain a standard practice throughout the golf industry, and our policy is consistent with many golf courses across our region.
Thank you to everyone who has shared their feedback. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to provide a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all golfers.
