It has been awhile since I have connected with you here.

It is time for an update.

Thanks to all of you who in recent years have reached out and have been asking what I am up to.

My life is very different today than it was before my husband passed away.

I have been reflecting on how the life coach and entrepreneur in me fits with who I have become since navigating an unexpected loss and the life I now find myself living. This has inspired a refresh on my website ~ it is simply an update of the journey loss has taken me on.

She did it again! She inspires me in so many ways! Cheryl Cran has written her 10th book!

Just over 25 yeas ago our friendship began as two ambitious entrepreneurs supporting eachother in our professional goals, we referred to eachother as success buddies, our friendship has continued to bloom, we experience a friendship that touches, supports and inspires our souls greatest desires, today I am grateful to call her a soul sister.

Her latest book Super Crucial Human, does just that ~ speaks to the souls desire. It is a brilliant combination of what it truly takes to experience not only future ready success but also principals that stir the soul and lay the foundation to be the best leader, influencer, and human that we are innately designed to be.

Cheryl has proven over the years to be on the cutting edge of what is next, what is needed, what is crucial to navigate individual, organizational, and global change.

Update: We are back! Kenny and I have landed and found our new home!

The last six months have been about finding "our home"~ a place where we will once again create roots and build our life. I am happy to share we bought a home! We are nestled in the Endowment Lands by the University of British Columbia. Close to our old stomping grounds. It is a breath of fresh air to be back by the ocean and the mountains again, my happy place! Surroundings that make my soul sing.

Reflecting on my last post, my intention was for this post to reflect my new Coach Teresia brand. Well……it seems life had other plans! Navigating a pandemic, loss, solo parenting, and rebuilding our life, has been a humbling dance that has called me to surrender to what life is asking of me.

I know many of you can relate. The pandemic (and here in British Columbia the extreme weather patterns) continues to be a time marked by stress, grief and hardship.

My greatest growth over the years has come from surrendering.
Surrendering to what is.
Surrendering to the flow of life.

It is not always easy, transition can be challenging, but within the ‘hard’, there is a knowing that everything will be ok when we trust the flow of life and follow the whispers of our soul. Seems during a pandemic that is the best we can do.

So today, I share the conclusion of our adventure to find a place to call home 🦋.

I am officially going on vacation!
And will be offline.

But before I unplug I am working on the last tweaks of my new website.
Sooo this is my last prelaunch post, my next post will be with my new brand!

And perhaps next time I post we will have decided where we will call home!

And he is still smiling!

Today he is smiling.
Tomorrow it may change.
Parenting is not always easy.

We put all our personal belongings in storage. Decided to spend the summer in British Columbia to see if moms (me!) missing of friends, family, ocean, mountains and the BC lifestyle was strong enough to make another change and call it home once again.

Months of letting go, upheaval, taking day by day, and he is still smiling!

Everyday has not always been full of smiles but I am so proud of how he is navigating the unknown, the missing and the uncertainty.

Since his dad died I have been more mindful of what he might need to navigate big life changes as there has been many.

What helps our children navigate life transitions?

Every child is different.
Every child will experience a significant change at some point in their life.
What makes a difference for your child?

Before our summer adventure I journaled what I felt worked for Kenny, so far it is proving to be a solid formula.

Here is a snippet of what I discovered.

*Planting seeds of what might be next ~ doing my best to give him time to adjust to the next move.

*Getting his opinion in the decision making, his opinion might not have influence in the final decision but having him feel part of it.

*Creating and sharing a vision that aligns with his values and interests.

*Ensuring “Kenny fun” is part of the process.

*Supporting and engaging friendships that show up along the way.

*When he is “off” or not having a good day my #1 priority is to ensure we “connect”, sometimes that is just hanging with him in silence, or playing one of his video games with him.

Today he is still smiling.
Tomorrow it may change.
Today I celebrate the joy that is present.

Every child is different.
Every child will experience a significant change at some point in their life.
Here’s to parenting and giving our best!

Trauma.

Trauma was a far off distant concept for me until my life partner suddenly passed away, then it was front and center in my life.

In the years following many light bulb moments went off.

I learned the changes I was experiencing with my brain and body was linked to trauma. This understanding transformed my relationship with unresolved trauma. My anxiety began to lesson, I felt more resourceful and my self compassion increased.

My journey of understanding trauma fully began when I participated in the trauma informed coaching certificate program in 2019. I am so grateful I did this training as I have even more value to bring to my clients. Many of us are impacted by trauma and we are not even aware of it.

Last week I got to have a conversation about coaching and trauma with Susan Hogarth, Co-Founder of Moving the Human Spirit and of the Trauma Informed Coaching Certification program.

One of my biggest light bulb moments was…….which I feel a little sheepish now to share as it seems so obvious to me today…..but before experiencing sudden loss I was not aware anxiety was linked to unresolved trauma.

Yummy! Breakfast at Bohemian cafe in Kelowna. This cafe came highly recommended and I am glad I went. Delicious!

Wonderful soul food and soul conversation with a friend🦋.

Part of our breakfast conversation was talking about how the pandemic had changed our lives not just during lock down but what it revealed on a greater whole, for the world, society and our individual lives.

We summed it up by saying I think many of us got crystal clear of what we will say yes to and what we will say no to.

Challenging times can shake us to the core.
Don’t waste the pain.
Let the discomfort reveal the seeds of a more meaningful fulfilling life.

Then dare to act.

My son and I are on an adventure this summer to discover our new home. We are in between the trapeze bars.

Trusting.
Preparing.
Integrating the fear with the aliveness.

I decided to step up my professional game. To take the way I serve and make a difference to the next level. I am finishing the final tweaks on my new brand - my website and my social media platform. Once again In between the trapeze bars.

Trusting.
Preparing.
Integrating the fear with the aliveness.

This is what the pandemic has revealed for me.

The other day someone asked me “what is your process to make the decision of where you will call home?”

I have realized at this time I do not have an official process. I have my list of what I ideally want for my son and I and beyond that my intent is to live the principals that has been at the forefront of my life since experiencing a significant loss.

Trust.
Intention.
Presence.
Mindfulness.
Noticing and following the signs.
Paying attention to my gut feeling.

Living with presence and intention has gifted me with a level of peace and an inner knowing that no matter what we will be ok.

When I feel unsettled I make time to reconnect with these principals.

Life transitions are not always easy, but being present is. If we allow it to be.

Today the only thing on my to do list is to be present.

We are In Kelowna!

We are checking it out for our new landing pad. Will this be our future home?

Nestled in the heart of British Columbia with world-class vineyards, great weather, food scene, beaches, close to extraordinary ski hills, an international airport and near family are all reasons Kelowna BC made the list of one of the places we might choose to live!

But…….the day we arrived we were smoked in and there continues to be smoke. BC summer forest fires has been a great challenge this summer 🙏. Seems to be happening more and more each year.

The smoke is clouding my decision making process or is it making it crystal clear? 🤔😎

Do you lean in or push it away?

Grief.

If we are honest with ourselves, grief never goes away.

Five years later triggers of grief continues to sneak up on me.

Every year, sometimes once or twice a year we drove the Hope - Princeton Highway to the Okanagan for our family holidays.

In the beginning we would take our sexy little BMW convertible - top down, music cranking, Brian always trying to surpass his last travel time 🙃🏎………then we became a family of three and the convertible had to go and so did his fantasy of being a race car driver!

So many special memories 🦋.

This was the first time I took this drive without Brian. While planning the trip I could not stop the tears.

I remembered the CD’s compiled of our favourite songs that he would spend hours making specifically for the enjoyment of our road trip.

I remembered holding his hand, listening to the music, not saying a word, simply taking in the extraordinary scenery of the BC beauty and knowing this was a moment to be present and grateful for.

I remembered his pride of being a dad and of the opportunity to share his son with his valued relatives who reside in the Okanagan.

Every memory brought a tear to my eye. The Okanagan rode trip had Brian written all over it. It was his happy place. It became mine.

How could I make it a happy place once again for my son and I?

We are creating new memories.
This is another first.
Will I lean in or push it away?

I have learned leaning in continues to honour the loved ones we lost.
I have learned leaning in honours both the ache and the beauty in the loss.
I have learned leaning in keeps my sons father alive in my sons life. This is important to me.

My intention is to lean in. It is not always easy but the depth of love, divine gifts and guidance when forging a new path continues to support me to do so.

Grief never goes away.
Sometimes that sucks.
Still, my intention is to lean in.

2016 my life partner died suddenly.
2017 my son and I moved across the country to be closer to my parents.

It was years in survival mode. Emotional survival. Physical survival. I thank God everyday I had money in the bank.

Five years later I am out of survival mode. My son is more independent.
We have a bond that will carry us through our next level🦋🙏.

I have intentionally uprooted our life once again.

It is scary.
It is unnerving.
It reveals familiar pockets of grief.

But I have decided it is necessary.

It is necessary because at the age of 21 I had a defining moment and decided to never settle for anything less than thriving for my best life.

It takes a huge dose of courage to live your best life.
It takes emotional risks to live your best life.
It takes a leap of faith to live your best life.

What I know for sure is that no matter where we land, when we reach for our hearts greatest desires the act itself is success.

It honours our authentic self.
It tells oneself you are worth it.
It is an act of self love that will carry you through your most challenging days.

Emotional courage ~ what if this was our definition of living our best life?

What if acting on our intuition, embracing our inner courage and claiming what our heart desires is success?

That is it. Nothing else.

Let go of the external measures and connect with the inner knowing of what you desire.

I am not clear of what the external will look like for my son and I, but each day I take another step on what I know is true for me.

It is not easy but I am learning it is my definition of living my best life.
