Whoever said you can’t have it all… never heard of Over The Top Racks. 😎
When your hitch is in tow mode and you need to haul a burly E bike… you have options and we’re here to help you determine what’s right for you!
🎯Front Hitch + E Bike Rack
🎯RV + E Bike Approved Trailer Rack
🎯Truck Bed Bike Mounts
❌This client did not want a Front Hitch. Here are some of his concerns: Adding a front receiver can change the look and ground clearance of your pickup. It also blocks airflow which when towing is not optimal. The rack and bikes can also obstruct vision. Plus the bikes also will take the brunt of whatever the road can throw at them.
✅The flip side to this is that the bikes are right where you can see them and you can use a standard bike rack (which you may already have) and you can also use in the rear hitch when you’re done towing! A front hitch is an economical alternative, especially if you can use your own rack!
❌This customer wasn’t keen on an RV bike rack. He was concerned about having his bike out of sight behind his trailer. Valid. Although choosing an appropriately rated RV rack is a very safe option - it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. They do move around to a certain degree so you can have some impact to the bikes in some cases. Plus you’re adding even more length to an already long truck and trailer.
✅The up side is these racks are super solid and E bike rated at around 70-80lbs per bike on a trailer and start at around $750. These racks have evolved so they would be happy in any 2” hitch and tilt up as well as away fully loaded.
✅The client had us previously install a Retrax Pro XR tonneau cover with T-Track side rails. So the thought of adding crossbars and a Kuat Piston SR, the only upright cabable of holding an E bike was appealing! He can see the bike, it’s mostly out of the wind and on the truck to uncouple and head out. Kuat also makes an E bike ramp!
❌Rolling your bike up a ramp 5’ in the air will take some skill and customization - Plus… 💸
There are pros and cons and at the end of the day it’s all about choosing what boxes you want ticked!
