•October 2-4, CKC Agility, Kelowna. Onsite judge Susan Byers, with courses also designed by Kirsten Locke.

•October 10-11, CKC Sprinters (3 events each day), Okanagan Falls.

These events are open to all breeds and mixed breed dogs with appropriate CKC ID numbers. If you don't have a CKC number for your dog, please don't delay in applying for one! You cannot enter without an ID number (and we cannot hold a space for you while you wait!).

Note: CKC sent the following note to clubs regarding agility move ups. The Whippet Club of BC does our best to have different event numbers for classes to allow for move-ups (e.g. Jumpers with Weaves 1 = Event #1234566; Jumpers with Weaves 2 = Event #1234567). However, mistakes can happen and it is always good to review both the rules and the event premiums for details!

NOTICE TO ALL CKC AGILITY TRIAL CLUBS AND EVENT SECRETARIES

Re: Move-Ups in Agility Trials (July 2026)

The Canadian Kennel Club has become aware of inconsistent practices regarding move-ups at Agility Trials. To ensure the Agility Rules & Regulations are applied consistently across all events, CKC is providing the following clarification.

Section 6.8.1 permits a dog to be transferred to the next level provided a written or electronic request is received prior to the commencement of the trial, or in accordance with the conditions advertised in the premium list.

However, clubs, event secretaries, and exhibitors are reminded that Section 1.2.4(d) also applies. This section states:

"When multiples of the same type of class are offered within the same trial (event number), dogs are not permitted to move up to the next level for the second class that is within the same trial."

The provision in Section 6.8.1 does not override or create an exception to Section 1.2.4(d). Premium list wording cannot be used to permit move-ups that are otherwise prohibited by the rules.

Examples

Example 1 – Move-Up Not Permitted

A dog earns an Intermediate JWW title in Intermediate JWW 1. The trial also offers Intermediate JWW 2 under the same event number.

The dog must remain entered in Intermediate JWW 2 or be absent from that class. The dog may not move up to Excellent JWW 2.

Example 2 – Move-Up Permitted

A dog earns an Intermediate Standard title in Intermediate Standard 1. The next Standard class is offered under a different event number and is considered a separate trial.

Provided all move-up requirements are met and the club's advertised procedures are followed, the dog may move up to the next level for the subsequent trial.

Club Responsibilities

Clubs and event secretaries should carefully review premium list wording and trial administration procedures to ensure they comply with the Agility Rules & Regulations. Premium list wording cannot authorize a move-up that is otherwise prohibited by the rules.

Exhibitor Responsibilities

Exhibitors are encouraged to review the applicable rules before requesting a move-up and should not assume that a move-up is permitted simply because it is requested on the same day that a title is earned.

CKC appreciates the cooperation of clubs, event secretaries, and exhibitors in ensuring consistent application of the Agility Rules & Regulations across all events.

Nearing last call for our Whippet Specialty show on July 25th! Entries close 9pm on Wednesday, July 8th. We always aim to host fun and welcoming events for newcomers and experienced participants alike.

Our judge this year is the wonderful Dr. Lisa Costello. The specialty is being held in conjunction with the Lower Mainland Whippet Association Specialty (July 25), the National Whippet Club of Canada Regional Specialty (July 26), and the Western Gazehound Club (July 26).

Our 2026 lure coursing trials and field trial conformation show took place this weekend. Many thanks to our lure coursing judges Miriam Woestenburg and Jessica Irving, and conformation judge Susan Quesnel. Events take a lot of work. As always, we could not do it without the tireless effort of volunteers.

A few shout-outs, at the risk of missing someone:
Ed, Bert, Guy, and Richard all kept the lure moving and the hounds safe on the course. David and daughters survived the dust and restrung the course over and over and over and—well, you get it. Ivy, Brittany, and Deb were our onsite mathematicians, ensuring accurate scores on paper and on the board in excellent time. Numerous other people stepped up to help: warming up and cooling off dogs, releasing hounds they’ve only just met, the unglamorous work of setting up and taking down tents and tables and awnings… A note of thanks for our venue, too: we are grateful to Timber Ridge Trails for hosting us and letting the hounds rip around such a lovely field. Having food prepared onsite, with cabins there and camping allowed, is truly a dream for clubs like ours.

I think we crowned *at least* two new Field Champions, a Field Champion Excellent, and a Field Champion Excellent 2 by the end of Sunday. We also had three whippets certify on Friday and they all had a promising debut weekend. Congratulations!

Our Spring 2026 CKC Agility trial weekend wrapped up today! THANK YOU to our onsite judge Denise Reid-Clarke, designing judge Sandi Maday, our participants (some of you travelled quite the distance!), and our volunteers! We truly could not put on these events without the help of our dog sport community. Feel free to share your photos and brags in the comments!

Our Fall 2026 CKC Agility dates are approved for October 2-4. We hope to see you there!

Behind every single run, there are *at least* 15 volunteers--from the Trial Secretary taking your entry and recording your results (thanks Anne!), to the people who got up at the crack of dawn and made sure we had enough room to park everybody onsite (thanks Bethany and Heather), those who built the course for you (Patty, I don't think you stopped moving for even a minute all weekend), someone to wrangle volunteers in the first place (thank you, Sarah!), not to mention everyone who timed, scribed, got you to the line in proper order, set bars and A-frames and tables for your dog's height... and this doesn't even include all of the pre- and post-trial work that goes on behind the scenes. We can't possibly list every person who helped this weekend, but please know we saw you and we appreciate you! Some highlights below.

🏅Over 2.5 days, we awarded 35+ titles. The majority were novice-level. It is great for the future of the sport to see so many novice dogs! We also had one Agility Master Excellent 2 (congrats Kevyn!).
