The 2026 Canadian Outdoor 3D Archery Championships is concluded in Muskoka, Ontario and Marc & I were part of a large contingent of BC archers who made the trip.
The format is 3 rounds of 20, then 5 targets in a shoot off final….all 1-arrow.
On Day 1, we began shooting a very challenging Course C in the muddy woods in steep terrain. After just 6 targets, were called off the course due to thunder and lightning. Once we were back over an hour later, and had completed the course, Katie was in overall second place, down by 9 points, with Marc also in second place by a narrow margin.
Day 1, round two took place on Course A which was another very challenging course, lots of disproportionately smaller targets & longer shots…likely what we will see at The Worlds, so good practice! Despite this, Katie managed to stay consistent and pulled ahead into first place with a 9 point lead, with Marc managing to turn it around and take a 6-point lead.
Day 2 and the final round on Course B which was a bit more forgiving than day 1 and Katie ended the day in second place, just 4 points down. After all three courses, Marc was now leading the men by 6 points.
We then transitioned into the Mixed Team event, partnering up together of course. The format is each team member faces off against an opponent and shoots one arrow per target. 14 teams entered and we found ourselves with a minuscule 2-point lead to make us the top seed. So we went into the woods and faced off against 8th place, our good friends Miranda & Jim, both shooting Longbow and after 5 targets we were victorious. Next, we progressed to the Semi-Final on the field and met Karen (Traditional) and Grant (Barebow) for 3 targets. We won with a 6-point lead which brought us to the Final where we faced Lisa & Travis, both shooting Barebow. 3 tense rounds later and a slim 2-point advantage saw us take the Mixed Team Gold!
Then on the last day, it was the final shoot off! The format is, the top 5 archers in each category get to shoot 5 more arrows and potentially impact the overall standings. During the shoot-offs, Katie shot 8-10-10-10-8 to take a 4-point lead and win Gold and Marc shot 10-8-8-10-10 to maintain a 6-point lead and also win Gold!
Given the circumstances and the competition, we are very proud to come away with a pair of Gold medals each!
Congrats to all BC & Team BC archers for the many medals you are all bringing home!!
