September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

In the weeks leading up to this important day, we're taking time to learn, reflect, and raise awareness about the lasting impacts of residential schools and the importance of reconciliation.

As part of our commitment to respect, inclusion, and community, we are taking the time to learn, spread awareness, support indigenous businesses, and have meaningful conversations.

🧡 Every Child Matters.

We are honoured to spotlight People in Motion, an organization whose work deeply reflects ACYAS's commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and community connection. 💙

During our visit, we had the opportunity to learn about the many valuable services they provide, hear heartfelt stories of impact, and witness a program in action. As a nonprofit organization, People in Motion relies on community awareness, volunteers, and donations to continue supporting individuals living with disabilities and creating a more inclusive community.

We are proud to support their work with a $500 donation and grateful for the difference they make every day.

Frequently, ACYAS uses its training room to host professional development opportunities for our team members, including Mental Health First Aid training facilitated by Christa Haywood-Farmer from CHFconnect.

This month, team members from ACYAS, A New Tomorrow Treatment Solutions Ltd, and A Way Home Kamloops came together to strengthen their skills and learn how to recognize, respond to, and support individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

At ACYAS, we require Mental Health First Aid training for all staff because mental health impacts every aspect of our work and our lives. Whether supporting youth, colleagues, friends, or family members, having the knowledge and confidence to respond with empathy and care helps create safer, healthier, and more supportive communities.

Thank you, Christa, for sharing your expertise and helping our teams build these essential skills.

We are thinking about everyone impacted by the wildfires. Thank you to Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc for sharing this useful information.

🔥 Be Ready Before You Need to Leave 🔥

With several wildfires affecting communities around us, now is the time to prepare for the possibility of an evacuation. Having a plan and your essentials ready can make a stressful situation much safer.

Before an evacuation is needed:

🎒 Pack a grab-and-go emergency kit with:
✔️ Medications and prescriptions
✔️ Important documents (ID, insurance, passports)
✔️ Cell phone chargers and power banks
✔️ Clothing and toiletries
✔️ Food and water for at least 72 hours
✔️ Pet supplies, if applicable

🏠 Prepare your home:
✔️ Know at least two evacuation routes.
✔️ Keep your vehicle fueled or charged.
✔️ Sign up for local emergency alerts and monitor trusted sources for updates.

👨‍👩‍👧 Make a family plan:
✔️ Decide where you'll meet if you're separated.
✔️ Share your evacuation plan with family members.
✔️ Consider the needs of children, seniors, and anyone requiring additional assistance.

➡️ Don't wait for an Evacuation Order to start preparing. Being ready now can help you leave quickly, reduce stress, and keep you and your loved ones safe if conditions change.

✅ Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

We were honoured to once again be the Platinum Sponsor of the Hospice House Charity Golf Tournament. ⛳💙 A huge thank you to NextGen Electrical for hosting such an incredible event in support of Kamloops Hospice. We loved connecting with everyone at our booth and having four teams out on the course for a great day of golf, community, and giving back.
