This one cost women so much unnecessary stress about morning workouts.

The 30-minute "muscle protein synthesis" window is one of the most repeated myths in fitness. It's just not true.

"Clean eating" sounds harmless until you realize almonds and avocado can add up to a whole meal in calories.

Plus... where's the fun in this?!

I eat 120g now versus the 180g I used to eat.

More protein isn't automatically better — past a certain point your body just can't use the extra for muscle, so it's wasted room you could've spent on carbs to actually fuel your training.

Meal plans feel like relief at first. Then you're lost the second life doesn't match the plan.

Seven things I learned losing 55 lbs in my 40s.

The past few years have taught me some lessons worth sharing. I think more people need to be honest about the reality as some of these were really hard. Although, they were all worth experiencing as it built resiliency.

If you're in the middle of it right now — the plateau, the pressure from people around you, the creeping doubt that maybe this just isn't going to work for you — this one's for you.

It works. It just doesn't work on the timeline you want it to or without the moments where you seriously consider quitting.

Expect it to be hard. Expect to want to quit many times. Expect to be imperfect. Expect doubt.

Keep going.

Being the healthiest, strongest version of yourself as you age is 100% worth every bit of discomfort.

If calorie counting "doesn't work" for you, watch this.

It's typically 1 of 4 reasons.

You weren't tracking accurately. The oil you cooked in, the handful of nuts, the bite of your kid's dinner — it all counts.

You weren't tracking consistently. Weekdays yes, weekends not so much.

You weren't tracking for long enough to see real data.

Or you had the wrong calorie target because you trusted an online calculator — and calculators don't have enough context to get it right.

Fat loss comes from a calorie deficit. So if you weren't losing, you just weren't in one. That's not a character flaw. It means nobody ever taught you how to do it accurately.

Eating clean is not the same as eating the right way for your goals.

You can eat nothing but grilled chicken, veggies, and smoothies and still not lose a pound. I've seen it happen over and over — and I've lived it myself.

Here's what actually matters:
Fat loss comes from being in a calorie deficit. Muscle comes from eating enough protein, carbs, and training hard. Not from choosing "good" foods over "bad" ones.

What I see most often with women 40+ is this: overeating healthy fats, restricting carbs, undereating protein, and focusing so hard on food quality that the actual numbers never get addressed.

So you feel like you're doing everything right. But your results don't show it. And the longer that goes on, the more you start to believe something is wrong with your hormones or your metabolism.

Nothing is wrong with you. You just need more than clean eating. You need to actually understand how food works.

I went from eating 25 grams of carbs a day — terrified of fruit, avoiding bread, adding butter to everything — to eating over 400 grams of carbs a day.

(Clearly, this is nuanced and has a ton of context behind it.)

However, I feel better than I ever did on keto. More energy. Better workouts. No more obsessing over every bite.

Here's what nobody told me when I was deep in the low carb world:
When all you focus on is cutting carbs, you stop paying attention to everything else. How much fat you're actually eating. Whether you're getting enough protein. Whether your calories are even close to where they need to be.

And fat is extremely calorie dense. It's very easy to massively overconsume calories when you think you're "eating clean" on keto — without ever realizing it.

Cutting carbs didn't fix my relationship with food. It didn't teach me anything. It just gave me a new set of rules to follow and a new list of things to be afraid of.
