Canoe gunwhale repair. Rather than replacing the entire length (17ft) I just replaced the rotting ends I scarf jointed new ends. Looking forward to getting it back in the water.

Bats and fireflies.
Saw 2 small bats on the ground near the chicken pen yesterday. Toward nightfall only one remained so used a stick to pick it up and put it in a spruce tree where I saw 2 others during the day. They were all gone in the morning.
Also, fireflies seem to be at their peak now. Look for them as it gets dark at the edge of forest and near shrubs. Beatiful. There are thousands in our yard.

Saw this beautiful rat snake at Frontenac Provincial park beside the office while lunching during a canoe course. Gorgeous.

Sleeping in my quinzee tonight. I used my drill for the first time with a paint mixer (thanks Elizabeth) for the difficult early stages of hollowing. After some space is created then my small shovel from the truck works really well. It's a clear night with the stars and many planets out including Mercury, Saturn and Venus in the west, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune above and Mars to the east. It's a very rare occurrence to have all the other planets in the night sky at the same time.

Eliminating bike lanes is the wrong way to go. It will cause more accidents, injure/kill more cyclists and create more vehicular traffic and more pollution and smog and increase greenhouse gasses.

Saw this cute critter this morning scurrying under the deck. Beautiful, except they prey on many small mammals AND chickens and may squeeze through the fence. Si, will safely trap it and release it in another area. So cute.
