Rocky Mountain Wingsuit

Rocky Mountain Wingsuit Rocky Mountain is a progressive wingsuit school located in Skydive Big Sky in Southern Alberta. Follow us on Instagram

Rocky Mountain provides training for experienced skydivers, whether they wish to learn how to fly wingsuits or to refine their current flying skills. We basically offer two modalities of training:

=> First WIngsuit Flight Course

Designed for skydivers who are new to wingsuit flying, this course provides all the fundamental instruction to fly a suit for the first time. The first wingsuit flight course is by far the safest and most effective introduction to wingsuit flying, not only for skydivers but also for BASE jumpers. This program includes:

- Ground instruction (60/90 minutes) from how to don a suit to all the required pre-jump and in-flight procedures.
- Free use of a school suit.
- Supervision on the ground and in the air from our wingsuit coach.
- Debrief & logbook endorsement
- Copy of the jump’s video recording
Requirements for the first jump:
- CSPA B CoP or FAI equivalent
- A minimum of 200 logged skydives (please provide your logbook for review)
- A docile, square or semi-elliptical main with a wing loading < 1.5 lbs/sqft
- A working automatic activation device
- Both a visual and an audible altimeter
- Helmet

=> Tailored Wingsuit Coaching:

Rocky Mountain Wingsuit also offers coaching to wingsuit pilots looking to improve their current skills. From basic relative work and acrobatic manoeuvres to more advanced skills, such as performance, back flying and carving, we will tailor a program to your needs. All coached jumps include pre and post-jump briefing as well as video recording.
=====================================

In summary, at Rocky Mountain you will find:

- Experienced wingsuit coaches, qualified under the requirements of the Canadian Sport Parachuting Association
- A great environment to develop as a wingsuit pilot, with a critical mass of wingsuit flyers at the Big Sky drop zone
- Events and skill camps held throughout the year (please have a look at our calendar)
- A fast climbing King Air 90 aircraft, capable of holding 14 jumpers

I don't agree with every point on this article, but I do agree the concept of feathering the port engine on king airs, Navajos and twin engine jump ships in general.

It takes a pilot who cares and a good conversation to make it happen. When it does, it's like manna from heaven...

Wingsuit tail strikes are a potential a problem with low tail aircraft

All, unfortunately the King Air is down until after the weekend, and while the Navajo is available for normal DZ operations there is no capacity to run the camp with Travis Mickle and therefore it has been cancelled.
Those of you who have paid your registration fee will be able to get a refund directly from Big Sky, just call manifest but bear in mind the DZ is closed until Friday.
As soon as we have worked out alternative dates with Travis, whether this year or next I will schedule another event and let everyone know.
