Turn 17 Garage Grand Prix featuring Vintage on the Prairies – July 18-19 – Rocky Mountain Motorsports

Wasn’t that a great weekend! Wow! I believe everyone had a great time.

The weather co-operated both days. Maybe a little too well on Saturday heat wise, but calmed down on Sunday to perfect racing weather. The Alberta Race Car Association (ARCA) made sure that everyone stayed well hydrated both days (great idea Jorgen).

We had the most incredible grids for this event. Thank you to all the competitors who came out and supported this race. We had 11 Open Wheel cars from Formula Libres, Formula Continentals and Sports Racers. There were 10 RUSH cars and 22 vintage vehicles from all makes and models. We also had 28 closed wheel cars from classes ranging from GT2, GT4, GTU, IT1, IT2, and Spec Miata. We had 4 competitors travel from BC and one travelled from Manitoba.

The Alberta Vintage Racing Club (AVRC) hosted a delicious dinner on Saturday night featuring chicken skewers, pasta salads and incredible desserts. Thank you to everyone who had a part in this.

Thanks go to Darcy one of our Formula Continental drivers who arranged for Lakeview Automotive to come out and feed our drivers and crew some great hot dogs on Saturday. The line-up was long and there were lots of happy faces.

Jim, a long-time track worker who comes down from Edmonton and provided delicious lunches for the workers of pulled pork on Saturday and smokies on Sunday. We appreciate your culinary skills.

Our rescue crew from the Canadian Motorsport Rescue Team (CMRT) are the best at what they do and I won’t run an event without them. Thank you for keeping us all safe.

The ambulance crew from Mahikan Medical are the best to make sure we are okay if involved in an incident.

The track workers, most of whom I have known from decades, (too many to name) never fail to do their jobs with a smile. Some of the track workers come from Calgary, most travel from Edmonton and we even had 1 worker come from Manitoba (welcome back Liew). I can’t tell you how much I appreciate everything they do for me as well, from helping to unload my car in the mornings to loading it up at the end of each day along with everything else they do during the day.

When I looked around on Saturday and Sunday, I couldn’t believe how many spectators were on the observation deck, the grand stands and the hill. Families came out in droves to enjoy the day with us.

Finally the team at Turn 17 Garage (Steve, Jarred and Kurtis, our title sponsor) and Rocky Mountain Motorsports (Steve and Jarrad) are bar-none the greatest. They always have a smile on their faces and never fail to help out when asked and even before asking. ARCA could not run this event without them.

If I have missed anyone, I apologize, but thank you.

Our next event is September 19 for the Premier Building Solutions Sprint and Endurance Season Finale. Hope to see everything there.

On behalf of the Alberta Race Car Association (ARCA) we would like to thank everyone and we mean everyone who made the 2nd Annual Triple K Autobody 16 Hour Parc Ferme Endurance Race the success it was.

First, the staff and management of Rocky Mountain Motorsports (RMM) without whose assistance we could not have pulled this event off. From Steve driving the pace car to “all hands on deck” along with the Canadian Motorsport Response Team (CMRT) having to pick up thousands of empty water bottles that the bikes use in bags instead of hay bales. When watching the film of the incident, the bag of empty water bottles slowly crept across the grass and gravel and then attacked Car 45 (driver Kevin Walsh) when he turned the corner and not the other way round.

Next are all the track workers working in the cold, rain and WIND! You guys rocked! I hope you have finally dried out and warmed up. The folks who managed to work inside Race Control. Believe it or not, we did get cold and wet, but only when we had to leave Race Control to head for lunch and pottie breaks. (Yes I know, aww, sucks to be us – yes it was.)

Next to receive kudos are those crew, family members and guests who came out to support their drivers. Drivers – I know you appreciated whatever support, assistance and help those individuals gave you.

Kudos to the drivers who never gave up and ran their cars in the cold, rain and wind and probably came close to developing hypothermia. Hopefully you have now dried out and warmed up.

A special thank you to Chief Chef Jim who fed many of us warm food both days whether it was the delicious chili and/or the smokies.

Personally, I also want to say big THANK YOU to those individuals who packed up my car so I didn’t have to at the end of the day. It made my weekend – so thank you.

Other sponsors – Turn 17 Garage for the continued use of their pace car and normally (if it hadn’t rained) for the use of the podium backdrop.
