Did you see the fresh snow on Morice Mountain this week? If you look closely there are still patches of snow from last year hanging on. Snow patches last until September about one in three years. The mountains is only 1800 m in elevation so that is quite something.
No skiing yet but it is coming. We are still busy with winter preparations. Steve has done an incredible job mowing and clearing debris beside the trails.
Thanks to donations from the Bulkley Credit Union and Pro-Tech Forest Resources we have done dome critical drainage up grades. For example. culvert in front of the cabin that caused so much water problems during warm winter spells has been upgraded. Turns out it wasn’t even a culvert- it was a drainage tile. We now 25 m of culvert from ditch to deck.
You will also see shade fencing near the cabin to improve snow conditions in the opening. We love the winter sun we get but it is hard on snow. We will also catch some wind blown snow.

We have been made aware that lumber stored along the Morice Mountain Nordic ski trails has been removed.

Please note that this lumber belongs to the Morice Mountain Nordic Ski Club and is intended for trail maintenance and improvements. It is not available for public use or removal.

We appreciate everyone’s help in respecting the materials and resources used to maintain our local trails. 🌲

Thanks so much to our BCWS crews! They are working on some wildfire risk reduction near our cabin. Fuel loading was extreme. Check out contrast between untreated and treated.

The gate is open. Please only drive to Silverthorne lake at this time. The balance between providing access to Silverthorne lake and preventing damage to ski trails further back is always a tricky balance. Most show good judgment and that is appreciated. Enjoy the weekend and happy Mother’s Day.
