Granted it will be a while before anyone is lacing up their skates, but we have already been reviewing our needs for this upcoming season.

Going back a couple of years, our maintenance schedule was almost solely devoted to shovelling and flooding in the evening.

For various reasons, last year found a shift to where mornings made more sense.

That's not to say this season will follow suit but, in anticipation and to ensure we are well prepared, we are putting the question out there:

"How would you feel about meeting at the ice rink every morning at 8am?"

At this point we aren't looking for a full fledged commitment, although that could happen in the months to come.

If you have even the slightest interest and a schedule that might allow for such, can you give us a call, or send a text message?

While the enthusiasm of our initial group of volunteers remains intact, in recent years personal commitments and reduced availability has proven a challenge.

With increased usage in the evening, we’ve also noticed a shift to early morning as the opportune time to clear and flood the ice surface, without having to displace skaters.

(Making it more difficult for volunteers who work during the day)

Sometime in October we plan to hold a meeting to enlist supporters that can proactively, and on an ongoing basis, keep the ice in good repair.

Our primary focus is to keep the rink open.

Existing solely on donations, likely making cost prohibitive, one “out-of-the box” idea is to contract the services of an individual, or company to take the responsibility on during the week.

At present, our goal is to simply make you aware of the volunteer challenge we face and give you time to consider your level of interest and involvement.

In early October we will post the date of the meeting.

Hopefully we will see you there.

Well what a community..........you may have seen some of our comments regarding this past winter (not over yet...winter that is...lol).

The season has been a great one thanks to the volunteers, our patrons and all you that helped make it happen with your financial support.

As we have mentioned the Outdoor Ice Rink comes with substantial cost that is covered by community support/donations.........that support has been phenomenal this year.

In addition to the many individual / corporate contributions , we have had the support for our donation boxes at many business locations.

It is imperative as volunteers that we take the time to thank the following for allowing us to use their business locations to raise the need to make the OUTDOOR ICE RINK a success:

The B**r Store, Post Office, McGillicafey's, Peppers Pet Food,Captains Table, Home Hardware, Johnstons Pharmacy, C Store, Bridgewater Cafe , Focal Brewery, Pethericks Pharmacy, Romas Pizza, The Nook ,Rivers Edge along with a shout out to Todds Independent for allowing our posters.

Also to Trents Hills for the use of the park, supplying water(The Fire Fighters for the initial flood) and the many folks that helped the volunteers with shovelling

YOUR ICE RINK VOLUNTEERS CANNOT SAY "THANK YOU" ENOUGH TO OUR COMMUNITY FOR THE SUPPORT...it takes a village and you have delivered!!

As we close out our 5th season, enshrouded in fog and saturated with rain, we'd like to thank everyone for their support over the winter. We skated. We fundraised. We flooded. And we shovelled. Boy, did we shovel. And, as always, it was worth the effort.
