To all my local folk, if you are around tonight, please come visit Montaño Taekwon-Do during our annual open house. I want to show you how far I've come.
I began teaching a small family class at the YMCA in 2017 as a way to honour my father and process my grief at his death from pancreatic cancer. I felt adrift, didn't know what to do next, how to support my mom or help my kiddos through their grief. I went back to the thing I had always done with my Pops, Taekwon-Do. My small class grew, and in
2019 I fulfilled a promise I made to my Pops and tested for my 6th degree black belt.
If you recall, right smack in the middle of the pandemic, August 2021, Irelocated and opened my own TKD studio in Hamilton. With the ups and downs of COVID, shutdowns, and my mother's death, it wasn't until May
20 22 that I opened full time.I now teach 10+ classes over four nights a week, have tested my own black belts, and won Martial Arts Instructor for the Readers Choice
awards in 2023 and am nominated for Best Martial Arts School this year. I also became a member of the Board of Directors for Canada, as the Director for Special Needs and Inclusion.
I have created an environment that embraces my fellow neurodivergents,
and provides accomodations and supports for them to thrive, and hopefully, someday, take my place. I am raising women who will be
International Black Belts, I am developing Autistic, ADHD, Neurodiverse students to thrive and excel in Taekwon-Do, learning the
complete curriculum set out by the Founder. I am teaching everything I
know, and learning even more to teach so that all my students can surpass me.
I am proud of what I have accomplished, and cannot wait to see what the next few years bring. Come, Let me share my school with you. Let me show you the passion my Pops introduced me to 39 years ago, and
meet the students who will be standing where I am 39 years from now.
