Lynnette Babin says she’s “no bigger than a minute.” At five feet tall, she often competes against athletes half a foot taller in powerlifting’s heaviest female weight class.

But the Antigonish, Nova Scotia resident continues to shatter provincial records. And with a national gold medal now in her sights, the mother of two is locked in to represent Canada at this September’s Commonwealth Championships in Winnipeg.

Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce that August’s Cleve’s Source for Sports Impact Award recipients are Zhiqing (Audrey) Wang and Marina Reny!

🏸 Audrey was a member of the U17 Junior National Team that represented Canada at the 2027 Junior Pan Am Championships in Joao Pessoa, Brazil from July 22-26. Her tournament was highlighted by winning a silver medal in women’s doubles – beating the top seeded USA team in semifinals before losing in the finals to the second seeded team from Canada.

🏄‍♀️ Marina is the Surfing Association of Nova Scotia (SANS) treasurer and since taking on the role she has helped establish and maintain financial records, introduced new efficiencies and helped improve insurance coverage and policies. Marina’s dedication, competence and commitment to SANS have strengthened both the organization’s operations and the community it serves.
