Thank you, Lawn Bowls Nova Scotia; we’re incredibly honoured to receive the 2025–26 Community Sport Organization of the Year award.

In just two short seasons, HRM Pride Bowls has grown into a welcoming and inclusive space for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies.

This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our host clubs, who opened their doors and made it clear that we belong in this sport. We’re truly grateful for the partnerships we’ve built and look forward to many more seasons together.

Lawn Bowls Nova Scotia are excited to announce that the winner of the 2025-26 LBNS Community Sport Organization of the Year is HRM Pride Bowls.
Founded in 2024 to introduce lawn bowls to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and other underrepresented groups in sport, HRM Pride Bowls continued their incredible growth in 2025- expanding to roughly 50 members across our member clubs. They hosted jitneys, training sessions, 2 tournaments and took part in the Halifax Pride Parade, followed by Try Lawn Bowls event at the Wanderers Lawn Bowls Club to welcome new participants.
Their efforts led to increased participation by their members in club and provincial competitions across Nova Scotia and beyond. With a vision to grow locally and inspire Pride Bowls groups across Canada, their impact continues to rise.
Congratulations to HRM Pride Bowls on all your organization’s successes during the past year. HRM Pride Bowls will be honoured alongside other Provincial Sport Organization’s Community Sport Organization of the Year recipients from across the province at the 2026 Support4Sport Awards- to be held May 23rd at the Halifax Convention Centre.

Last Summer, HRM Pride Bowls was formed to organize social recreational lawn bowling for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Once a week from mid-May through the end-of-September, HRM Pride Bowls organizes social games called Jitneys, and they rotate evenings and are hosted amongst various HRM-based Lawn Bowling Clubs (LBCs). Many are on Mondays and Tuesdays, but there are other evenings as well to provide variety to the schedule. Arrive by 6:20pm to figure out teams/formats, games start at 6:30pm.

HRM Pride Bowls provides Training Opportunities and Post-Pride Parade events on Facebook:

Simply put, Lawn Bowling is like Curling, but:

· Done in the summer on the grass instead of the winter on Ice
· You roll bowls (weighted balls) that curve like curling stones
· There is a white Jack ball which acts like the button in curling… except it can be hit and strategically moved around the field
· And Lawn Bowling has various formats to play – Singles, Pairs, Triples or Fours, depending on who shows up!
