Common mistakes in large animal rescues include:

- Using a horse’s head or tail as a handle
- Standing in the kick zone or escape path
- Trying to force a frightened horse to move
- Approaching without understanding flight behaviour

Well-meaning actions can lead to serious injuries for both people and horses.

Knowing what not to do is just as important as knowing what to do.

’s On-Demand Large Animal Emergency Rescue (LAER) Awareness Course helps horse owners understand safe response basics and how to support trained responders.

Did you know that lush green pasture can pack more calories than you think?

In the spring and early summer, can gain weight quickly, so monitoring is important to reduce the risk of issues like insulin resistance and laminitis.

Perform regular Body Condition Scoring (BCS) so you know what’s changing before it becomes a problem.

- Feel—don’t just look
- Monitor fat deposits (hello, cresty neck!)
- Work with your vet and nutritionist to ensure adequate nutrition while striving for ideal BCS

Want to feel confident assessing your horse’s condition this summer?

We are excited to announce a change in venue and date for the I Can Event (I.C.E.) and Dressage Scotia Series Provincial Championships!
For our Dressage athletes and coaches, this change gives you more flexibility in attending or coaching at both our championships and EC National Championships. It can further serve as a “staging event” for nationally qualified athletes who have not yet competed in an outdoor venue this year, leading up to nationals.
For our I.C.E. athletes and coaches, having our championships held outdoors will encourage more of you to vie for that qualification spot and to compete at a new venue!
Check out our Calendar of Events to ensure that you compete at our qualifying events.
For those who have not yet declared for EC Championships, remember to do that before next weekend’s RIDERS Gold competition!
We look forward to seeing you at Horses at Work in September! It’s going to be so much fun!
