🌹 Celebrating the legacy of one of the most influential women in the history of Spanish dance: Antonia Mercé, “La Argentina” (1890–1936).

Born in Buenos Aires to Spanish parents, she carried the name of her birthplace throughout her extraordinary artistic career. “La Argentina” became a symbol of innovation, artistry, and excellence in Spanish dance. (RTVE)

A visionary artist, creator, and entrepreneur, she professionalized Spanish dance from an academic perspective, elevated the castanets to a concert instrument, and was a pioneer in ballets with dramatic development.

Her work also embraced flamenco, integrating its expressive power and popular roots into stage productions that helped dignify flamenco and bring it to major theatres around the world.

A true pioneer whose artistic vision opened paths for generations of dancers and choreographers.

🌹 Sharing this beautiful tribute from Festival de Jerez.
