HCU15AAA Boys are 🏆 MARITIME CLUB CHAMPIONS 🏆 coming out on top as the top U15AAA Boys team in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI.
After lifting the Nova Scotia Cup last summer, HCU defended their title on a bigger stage this year — and did it in convincing fashion with a 4–1 victory in the final.
The game started fast, with Ife Adebowale finding the net inside five minutes, only to see it called back for offside. But the early warning was a sign of what was to come.
HCU controlled possession and field position before breaking through on a perfectly executed corner routine. Reece Currie delivered the ball and centre back Sohail Nait El Caid rose to bury a powerful header into the top near-side corner.
The lead doubled through some excellent hold-up play from Adebowale, creating space for an aggressive overlap from JD Robinson. The fullback drove forward and calmly tucked his finish inside the far post for his first goal of the summer.
Seven minutes later, the other fullback joined the attack. Captain Simon Kaupp picked out Currie with a cross-field ball, Currie brought it down, spun through two defenders and cut it back for Remmy Marriott to make it 3–0 before halftime.
HCU picked up right where they left off after the break.
Eight minutes into the second half, Axel Jost, one of HCU’s “closers”, came off the bench and found the scoresheet for the second straight knockout game. A centre-back-to-centre-back through ball found Kaupp, whose touch over the keeper fell perfectly for Jost to finish and put the game to bed.
PEI pulled one back from the penalty spot, while some key saves at the other end kept it at 4–1 before HCU expertly managed the remaining minutes to see out the championship.
A true team effort from a deep group. Every player saw the pitch in the final, and every player played a role over the course of the Cup competition.
Congratulations to this special group of players, and our excellent group of Coaches - Chris Gallant, Josh Gallant, and Rylan Logan!
