🎿 The “End of Season” Gear Guide
Don’t let your gear rot in the garage! Follow this 3-step checklist to ensure your kit is ready for the first chair next winter.
1. The Deep Clean 🧼
Before you pack it away, get the grime off. Salt and sweat are the enemies of technical fabrics and metal edges.
Apparel: Wash shells, puffers, and base layers using tech-wash (follow those care tags!).
Gloves: Wash and dry thoroughly. Apply leather cream to mitts to prevent cracking over the summer.
Hardgoods: Wipe down skis/boards to remove dirt.
The “Boot Breath”: Remove liners and footbeds. Let them air out for 48 hours to ensure no moisture (or smell) is trapped inside.
2. Pre-Storage Prep 🛠️
A little maintenance now saves a lot of money in December.
Relax the Tension: Close ski boot buckles loosely. Don’t crank them down, but don’t leave them open—you want the shell to keep its shape without stress.
Summer Wax: Apply a thick “storage wax” layer to your bases.
Puffers: Store down jackets uncompressed (on a hanger or in a large mesh bag) to keep the feathers from losing their loft.
Goggles: Store in a microfiber bag to prevent lens scratches.
3. The Ideal Environment 🏠
Where you store your gear is just as important as how you store it.
The Golden Rule: Cool, dry, and dark.
Places to Avoid: Attics (too hot), damp basements (rust/mold), or sheds (pests and temperature swings).
Organize: Airtight bins are great for apparel and boots, but triple-check that everything is 100% dry before sealing them, or you’ll find a science experiment next season.
Hope our guide helps! Our winter passion may be being packed away, but we’ve got summer up next! Who’s already training for their marathon? 💪
