Need an excuse to walk in the woods today, come to the course with a rake or leaf blower and help us prepare for the Leaf Drop Tournament tomorrow.

Any help clearing some walking trails, tees and greens would be appreciated.

Clearing trails helps players walk a bit more confidently and keeps us on trail. Also helps with finding discs.

Not many spots left for the Leaf Drop tournament on October 23rd. If you want to play, sign up soon.

Hole 7, the Meadow, has a challenging forehand line to the long basket…the biggest arms can get close for an eagle bid. Not this time .duvie
Come back again for another try and bring more destroyers.

The leaves are changing but the official LEAF DROP Doubles is on October 23rd.
Don't miss this great reason to find a friend and bring them to the best place to play disc golf in the Haliburton Highlands. The leaves will be colourful and the bugs will be long gone.
Registration is already open and if you sign up before October 1st, you get $20 off.

Just like last year Victoria Fenninger of FR Bike - E-Bike Tours is working hard to make this a great event for new and experienced players. Come out, enjoy the day and support what Abbey Gardens - A Growing Experience does for the region.

HIGHTLANDS LEAGUE - FINAL NIGHT -SOME REVISIONS
STILL THIS THURSDAY:
Bad math and bad memory combined. I am now out and Pat is in for sure, congrats! Apologies to Pat, the translation from Udisc leagues and some screenshots of cards from last week to my spreadsheet was off.

After week 1 we have four competitors still in the mix that ended up with the best net score:
Dylan G: most improved...shot 58, PB by 6, with a net of42
Matt C: posted a season matching best of 59, net 45
Curtis B: shot well with a 61, netting 49
Pat O: with a consistent 60, netting, 49

This week these four will compete with updated handicaps including last weeks scores, we dropped the worst of the four and averaged it on three scores this week, they tightened a bit:
Dylan only gets 13 strokes, from 16
Matt gets 11 strokes, from 14
Curtis gets 11 strokes, from 12
Pat gets 10 strokes, down from 11
The handicapping may not be perfect but the results suggest they aren't too far off...hopefully we have a close battle this week.

Those four will play together, following the losers from week 1.
We will be playing the short orange layout again.

If I still have it wrong...we'll figure it out on Thursday at league. I'll bring my computer.

After the round we will give out some prizes and share some refreshments...still figuring out where, but on-site likely, we might head over to the back lawn of the Abbey Retreat Centre if the weather is good.

Lastly want to thank Kelly Mercer - Re/Max Professionals North for supporting the league this season.

Hoping to run a fall flex start league on the weekends with a group start on Saturdays...still figuring it out.

Highlands Disc Golf League
The first season of the Highlands summer league at Abbey Gardens Disc Golf Trail is wrapping up. We have finished all of the regular week play and will be starting the finals this Thursday August 25th.

We had 24 different players at least come out to league during the summer but only 9 played the minimum number of rounds to qualify for the finals. The finals will take two weeks to complete and are based on some rudimentary handicaps we have cobbled together based on the competitors performance all season. Basically we just averaged out their best four scores and set the handicap as the difference between the best average and their average, not perfect, but should work for a casual fun league.

Week 1: Four of Nine
Out of the nine players that qualify for week 1 the top four net score finishers move on to Week 2.

Week 2: Final Four Showdown
The top four from Week 1 play for the win, low net score takes it.
Plan to stick around a bit after Week 2 weather permitting to give out some prizes and enjoy the end of summer. If the weather sucks, we'll figure something out.

The nine players that get to compete for the Highlands League title are with their handicaps are:
Darrell - 0
Dan - 7
Pat - 11
Kelly - 12
Curtis - 12
Matt - 14
Dylan - 14
Rob - 16
Fraser - 26

Although all league members don't get to compete for the big win it would be great to have you all still come out and have a couple more weeks of fun. Drop-ins are always welcome.

We'll plan for a few more prizes over the next two weeks...maybe an ace bounty and CTP on hole nine of Aceplace corner.

Full league results are on UDisc at the following link.

Thanks to Kelly Mercer - Re/Max Professionals North, TinLid Disc Golf, Innova Discs and Abbey Gardens - A Growing Experience for supporting the league this summer.

By the way, we are hoping to carry on in the fall with a weekend league, likely Sundays, so stay tuned.
