Hagersville Wado Karate-Do Welcome to our Hagersville Wado Karate-Do page. Our focus over the years has always been the instruction and discipline of true Wado Karate.

Founded in 1984 by Lawrence Blakemore in Waterford, Ontario, the South Western Ontario Region (SWOR) of Wado-Kai Karate grew over the years to have many different clubs. Wado encompasses many different aspects of martial arts, but our roots are in our style's name: Wado. Our style's name is made of three separate words: Wa: Peace/Harmony, Do: Way Of, Kai: Organization. Put together, we are the Org

anization of the Way of Peace and Harmony. Our job is to teach discipline, self-defence, thoughtfulness and consideration, and manners. Naturally with the study of a martial art you will receive a physical and mental workout in every session. Each class begins with a 10-15 minute warm-up and stretch (usually consisting of basic stretches for arms, legs, neck, and back). The lessons include some combination of basic technique (punching, blocking, kicking), stances, kata (a pre-determined order of movements), and sparring. During some classes we also focus lock-up technique to stop an attacker from hurting you or your family. For adults we occasionally train in Shindo, which is a short-staff martial art. All aspects of our classes can be practiced by anyone from young-to-old. We never ask that anyone do anything to hurt themselves, and if something is too much for your body to handle then to tone it back. SWOR is not alone in this as we are part of a larger organization spread across Canada. They are known as the Martial Arts Promotional and Developmental Association.

In a dojo's gentle light, a young cub entered, eyes so bright,
A canvas fresh, a spirit keen, in a gi, so crisp and clean.

The master watched with knowing eyes, under wisdom's aged guise,
Began a journey, hearts entwined, in the art of discipline combined.

Through each stance, each fall, each rise,
The cub grew strong, swift, and wise.
With every punch, every block, every kick,
A bond formed, deep and thick.

The master taught not just to fight,
But to stand with honor, heart alight.
Years spun like kicks in the air,
The cub's growth beyond compare.

From white to black, the belts did change,
In this martial dance, elegant and strange.

With each belt, the master's pride swelled,
In silent awe, their heart compelled.
Then came the day, unforeseen,
When the student's skill was keen.

Surpassing the master, with humble grace,
In that sacred, quiet place.

The master saw, with tearful eyes,
Their cub, under black belt skies.
Not a goodbye, but a passage of torch,
In life's relentless, forward march.

The cub now leads, with strength and love,
The master watches, proud thereof.
For in this journey, deeply sown,
Is a love, a respect, profoundly grown.

So goes the tale, in martial arts' embrace,
Of growth, of change, in life's unending race.
The master smiles, heart fulfilled and vast,
For in their student, their legacy will last.
