We love a big alpine bowl as much as anyone.

But there’s something pretty special about disappearing into the trees on a deep snow day.

Especially when the snow is this good.

The snowline has been steadily moving down the mountains, and we’re starting to get pretty excited about winter.

There’s something about those first few snowfalls that gets everyone thinking about skiing again. Morning coffee delivered to your cabin, the helicopter rides, and those runs you wish would never end.

We’re not quite there yet, but we’re getting closer.

If you ask Great Bear guide Dave Ellison what makes this place special, the skiing is only part of the answer.

Dave has spent six years guiding in the Coast Mountains, getting to know the snow, weather and character of this incredible range. His love for Great Bear extends well beyond the terrain—to the food, the people, the hot springs, the lodge dogs and, whenever the opportunity presents itself, karaoke.

We’re lucky to have him as part of the Great Bear family.

A good ski day doesn’t end when the skis come off.

It simply moves inside—where a well-made cocktail and something warm from the kitchen carry après into dinner, and dinner has a habit of turning into an evening with the people who made the day possible.

Sometimes that evening involves stories from the mountains. Sometimes it involves drinking mystery shots from a ski.

Both are important parts of the Great Bear experience.

That is the magic of the Coast Mountains: the farther they stretch, the more personal each run becomes.
