Ferraro Karate and Martial Arts is a family oriented dojo recently located in the Downtown Core of "The Royal City," Guelph, Ontario. Nakazato's Shorin-ryu Shorinkan Association from Naha, Okinawa, Japan, Sensei Stephen Ferraro (B.A., B.Ed.), an Ontario Certified Teacher, is committed to promoting quality traditional Okinawan Karate and Kobudo (Weapons) to students of any age. ro has been training for almost 30 years and has been teaching karate as an instructor since the age of 14. The dojo offers Karate and Kobudo, MMAFITness and Kickboxing, and NOGI Brazilian Jiujitsu classes. Karate and Kobudo:
Toddlers/Pre-school (ages 3-5)
Children (ages 6-11)
Young Adults and Teens (ages 12-16)
Adults (ages 17 and up). MMA Combat Fitness: (ages 17 and up)
Combat Fitness mixes circuit training, Crossfit and cardiovascular training with tactical training in Boxing, Kickboxing, Karate and Grappling, adding yet another element to your Martial Lifestyle. Learn to kick, punch, elbow and knee like the pros while building muscle, losing weight and empowering yourself! NOGI Brazilian Jiujitsu: (ages 17 and up)
NOGI Brazilian Jiujitsu is a grappling art that is composed of the ground techniques of Judo called “newaza”. It is essentially the same as Brazilian Jiujitsu but does not require a kimono or “gi” hence the term, NOGI. A popular grappling arts that fuses traditional BJJ with Wrestling, Sambo, and other grappling arts.

👋 See you soon, Sensei Carter Carter and we wish you the best!

😢 Truth be told, took me a while to make this post. We will miss having Sensei Carter on the mats. I’ve know this kid for a decade; having taught him since the age of 8 - at my YMCA feeder school program at the time! Now, 18, he is off to the University of Queens and into the world.

👊 The kids we build through Karate are resilient, strong, empathetic, and empowered. They have the tools to go after what they want and the “know how” to get it done. I am confident that Sensei will make a “big splash” in the world and I can’t wait to feel the wake.

🙇‍♂️ As a Karate teacher, “it is not a matter of ‘if’ they leave but ‘when.’” So, when your kids step on the mats, I treat every class as an opportunity to help them develop into young adults like Sensei Carter and I value each and every minute of time. For when they leave, they will leave a much better human being - ready to be a bright and shining light in this world.

👊 Had an amazing day of Karate catching up with a new student, Stephen, and a old peer, Patricio, from the 90’s: Sensei Stephen - Lee Marhong of Sensei Stephen Lee and Sensei Patricio Belle from the Toronto and Caledonia area. Both students of the late Kyoshi T. Belle of the Toronto area.

🙇‍♂️We presented Sensei Stephen with his Nidan Certificate after our recent trip to Okinawa, Japan 🇯🇵 this summer from Hanshi Minoru Nakazato and after some kata warm ups had Sensei Belle take us through some weapons kumite drills and randori which was a lot of fun! 🤩

🥋 Making new/old connections again to strengthen our love for Karate and Kobudo. As Sensei Iha would say, “make friends with Karate.” Looking forward to having Sensei Belle out to train with us and of course to help Sensei Stephen continue his growth in Karate and Kobudo.

👊 Thanks again Gentlemen for a great day of training, camaraderie, sharing, and of course, FOOD! 😂

👊 I love these freaking guys. They show up and work HARD. Some with previous Karate experience and others with absolutely none. It’s not easy to start a new thing or even try again from white belt … or let’s be honest, have to deal with me as a teacher… but they put in the work and strive for their best each and every class!
