of the UWRC! Chloe is one of the amazing rowers in our womens 4 and has competed in all our events this season! She comes from Hamilton, Ontario, and is in her 2A of Biotechnology/Economics.

Why did you start rowing? “My rowing coach came up to me and said I should join-I started in Grade 9 and haven’t stopped for 6 years!”

What is your favorite memory with the UWRC? “We may have been the only ones in our category, but winning the 2019 JV Women McMaster 2x4 was amazing!”

What gives you free speed? “C h o c o l a t e m i l k!”

It’s another day to ! Today we have Megan, who is one of our most recent recruits. She started with us just this term and has already participated in HOTT and Brock invitational in our women’s double. She is from London, Ontario, and is in her 1A term of therapeutic recreation.

Why did you start rowing? “A friend of mine suggested we do it together but ended up getting injured before the season started. I decided to still do it anyways and immediately fell in love with the sport.”

What is your favorite memory with the UWRC? “Playing Disney music while we unloaded and rigged boats in the dark after a long day of racing.”
•
What gives you free speed? “Country tunes and donut runs!”

Now that competitive season is over, it’s time to and get to know our crew members a bit more! Up first is Jordan, one of our amazing scullers who competed in HOTT, Brock invitational, and OUAs. He comes from Vancouver, BC, and is in his 2A of Civil Engineering.

Why did you start rowing? “I didn't have any extracurriculars and had lots of free time going into grade 10 and I was extremely bored and without direction in life. I did sailing during the summer and knew some kids in my class who rowed, so I wanted to give it a try. The feeling of accomplishment and speed when you race a 2k coupled with the sense of teamwork and friendship made me stay with the sport for my last 2 years of high school and has really helped me get to where I am today by helping me direct all my energy into something and creating a rigid schedule in my life that I can follow.”

What is your favorite memory with the UWRC? “Driving back from Head of the Trent with the team and just blasting country music as we drove along back roads with the windows rolled down in the afternoon sun while the whole row sang along to some downhome country. The sense of friendship and togetherness reminded me why I love this sport and the people in it.”

What gives you free speed? “Ace bakery Olive oil & Sea salt Mini baguette crisps, and accidentally shaving my head cause I didn't understand how to ask for a haircut!”

Our athletes with all smiles at the OUAs last saturday! So grateful to have had the opportunity to row against great teams 😄 It may have been our first OUAs, but it definitely won’t be the last! See you all again next season! 💪🎖
