GUELPH GRYPHONS PERFORMANCE ACADEMY INVITES YOU TO TRAIN LIKE A GRYPHON! Our head Gryphons Strength & Conditioning Coach Josh Ford welcomes community athletes to train with our Strength & Conditioning staff and current Gryphons Student-Athletes. Athletes will be trained using principles from the Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) to maximize the windows of trainability. Using age appropria

te methods similar to our own Gryphon athletes, the Gryphons Performance Academy athletes will experience the following training based on developmental level.
-> Energy System Development (Conditioning)
-> Strength, Speed & Power
-> Movement Competency & Capacity
-> Balance, Coordination, Agility
-> Mobility & Flexibility
-> Proper Recovery & Regeneration Strategies

The goal of the Guelph Gryphon Performance Academy is to provide a challenging and safe training experience for young athletes to improve and enhance their physical capacities that will benefit their athletic pursuits and beyond. In turn we see increased health and wellness, confidence levels and decreased rates of injury. The Guelph Gryphons are proud to promote a positive culture of inclusivity, encouragement, and personal growth. We want young athletes to experience what it’s like to invest energy, attention and effort towards a goal and see the results that follow! During our training sessions our instructors will emphasize the 5 values of “I Am Gryphon” program:
Caring, Determined, Respectful, Engaged and Authentic. All sessions will have a coach-to-athlete ratio of at least 1:10 and will be coached by one of our Strength & Conditioning Coaches along with current Gryphon varsity athletes. NOTE: GPA FOOTBALL Sessions will be taking place at the Performance Centre located inside the Alumni Stadium (1 Powerhouse Lane) and GPA MULTI-SPORT & SAQ Sessions will take place in the Gryphon Performance Centre in the W.F.

Introducing the GPA Multi-Sport Program

Starting Monday March 9 from 5:00-6:30pm, athletes from all sports; ages 12-18, can utilize the Gryphon Performance Centre with programming and coaching in a semi-private nature. Athletes will have the option to sign up for 1,2 or 3 x per week on M/W/F for each month. Cost will vary depending on the selected training frequency. Sessions will focus on speed, agility, quickness, strength, power and other elements of athletic performance.

If you’re a youth athlete looking to develop this summer our High Performance Development Camp is for you.

Each camper will go home with a 6 week training program and a Gryphon Performance Academy T-shirt.

Are you a high-performance athlete that wants to learn how to maximize your physical ability? Join us for this 1-week, half day program hosted by the University of Guelph Varsity Strength & Conditioning Coaching staff.

Coaches will take you through a movement assessment and a comprehensive program aimed at teaching you how to master the basics of strength and conditioning. Topics will include movement competency, strength, power, speed, agility and conditioning. Sessions will be primarily practical with some classroom education sessions covering the why’s behind training and other relevant topics such as nutrition and recovery.

Each participant will:

Receive a complimentary Gryphon Performance Academy T-Shirt and a 6-week take home program.

Get more opportunities to train the physical qualities learned in the previous days!

Similar to years past, there will also be opportunities to win swag/merch for those displaying our Gryphon Strength and Conditioning values of

- provides a level of resilience to handle the demands on ice
- reduces injury risk by increasing strength
- tops of qualities like speed and power that can drop off quickly if untrained
- builds team chemistry in a different environment from your sport

Calling all boys hockey athletes from GMHA and surrounding organizations. If you’re looking to get stronger, faster, more explosive and more fit this summer, this is the group for you. Programming will be hosted in the Gryphon Performance Centre with our talented S&C coaches. Sessions will run Mondays and Wednesday from July 3 - Aug 14. Sessions run for 3 week blocks in packs of 6 (July 3 - 22 and July 24 - Aug 14 *excludes Aug 5 per the holiday).
The older group (15-18 years old) will run 1:00-2:00pm, while the younger group (12-14) will run 7:00-8:00pm.

Time to take your on-ice performance to the next level for the 2024-2025 hockey season 🏒🥅

These dedicated training times will be coached by our Gryphon Performance Academy staff and focus on elements of speed, power, change of direction, total body strength and much more.

Sessions will be divided based on age group, with the older group (age 16-21) starting at 6pm and the younger group (age 12-15) starting at 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday.

Whether you’re a junior Gryphon or an athlete from out of town, we welcome all girls who want to get better this offseason.

Speed and power qualities need to be trained weekly (especially in the off-season when games/practices are less frequent).

All of our GPA team training sessions include speed training components that allow athletes to express multidirectional speed & power as it relates to their sport.

Some examples of this might look like:
- sprinting
- sled sprints
- max effort jumps (broad, vertical)
- skips for height
- racing teammates in multiple direction

Setting realistic expectations can make or break your experience as an athlete.

Expecting a straight shot to the top with no bumps in the road/hurdles to overcome, isn’t realistic.

Sports will throw a lot at you. It could be an injury, a tough season full of losses, a team conflict, a coaching change, an intense travel schedule, or a variety of other things.

Focus on what you CAN control:
- your attitude
- your effort level
- your buy-in
- your mindset (growth vs fixed)
- your preparation (sleep, nutrition, training)

Not the things you CAN’T control:
- teammate performance
- opinions of others
- game / practice schedule
- coaching decisions

We are excited to showcase more content of your hard work during training 🏋️‍♀️

That means that our coaches might be taking pictures or videos of your sessions in GPC North or South.

However, this is 100% optional and if you would prefer NOT to be on camera/social media, please let us know during the session. We will respect your (or your parent’s) request of privacy.
