Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Juneteenth honours the resilience, strength, and enduring contributions of Black communities, while also reminding us of the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice.
While Juneteenth is an American observance, its message extends beyond borders. At SWC, we believe that building a stronger community means embracing diversity, fostering inclusion, and working together to challenge discrimination in all its forms. Today, we encourage everyone to take time to learn, reflect, and continue conversations that help create a more equitable future for all.
