The Grande Prairie Aquarians Summer Swim Club is a member of the Alberta Summer Swim Association (ASSA), welcoming swimmers each summer from May to August for skill development, teamwork, and a fun, supportive, and competitive swim experience. The club promotes the development of young swimmers through healthy activity as well as promotes sportsmanship and healthy competition. The club ranges in ages from 5 to 18 and ranges in ability, from novice and above. *Please keep in mind swimmers that are just learning to swim need to feel comfortable in the water unassisted, if you are unsure if your swimmer is ready to join please reach out to us as we can do swim tests if needed. Swimmers practice and compete from May to mid-August. Swimmers train 3-5 days per week at the Eastlink Centre under trained and certified coaches. Swim meets are held on Saturdays throughout Northern Alberta from late May to the end of July. The Aquarians Swim Club hosts their swim meet in June at the Eastlink Centre, typically hosting 250 swimmers. The Club also partakes in Regionals at the Eastlink center at the beginning of August and Provincials in Edmonton Mid-August. The club is non-profit aside from our registration fee of $600 per swimmer. The balance of the club costs, which includes: lane time, swim meet entry fees, and coaching, is obtained through fundraising and generous donations. Swimmers are placed in groups according to skill level, not by age. This is done to ensure that all swimmers have access to the level of training they are capable of fulfilling. Because swimmers are placed in groups by skill, we cannot offer exact swim times that a swimmer will attend until the coach has assessed them for the current season. Assessments will happen the first week of May and groups will be assigned the following week. Although we are unable to give concrete practice times here is a general schedule used in past years to give parents an idea of what our season could look like. Over the years the Club has successfully trained Provincial Medalists; both individual competitors and relay teams as well as Provincial Record Holders. Have fun, exceed your personal fitness goals, meet new friends and develop excellent swimming skills.
