Many people think that cardio is what they need to do when fat loss is the goal. While cardio does burn calories, and can contribute to a deficit, there is more to consider... Your results will vary significantly depending on whether you're in a calorie surplus, at maintenance, or in a calorie deficit.Β
There is also another crucial piece often overlooked: if you do cardio only, you will lose fat (assuming you're in a deficit), but many people aren't just aiming for 'less fat', they want to look lean, defined, and βtoned.β That look doesn't come from losing fat alone, it comes from having muscle underneath that fat.
Without building muscle, you might end up smaller, but not necessarily with the shape and definition you want. Strength training is what builds that muscle, increases your basal metabolic rate, and sculpts your body. Combining nutrition, cardio, and strength training is the most efficient and sustainable path to achieving both fat loss and that desired βtonedβ physique.
