Here’s the latest Marshall Lake ski report for Sunday, March 1

We had another absolutely beautiful bright and sunny day at Marshall, +4°C at Sunset, no winds. A little too warm for a grooming, although I did make a few passes up the elevator, down Jolly Jack and around the Mackay loop.😄

After disappointingly finding out about the new ATV ruts and damage last week, I was very discouraged wishing I had proper equipment on our snow cat so today I managed to temporarily attach our new set of combs to our old roller. Our roller is typically used with cold fresh snow, when it gets warm like this, the snow sticks creating a snowball effect, making an awful mess.

Today I put a chain on the roller, keeping it from rotating. this made it act more like a compactor bar, pressing the snow down compacting it before the combs brush it out making corduroy!
My experiment worked out great! although I cannot back up with the roller, as I would be able to with a conventional compactor bar, I managed to drag it up and down all the steep hills on volcanic😁
So you skiers that love volcanic come up and check it out. There is currently several kilometres of corduroy some areas over 12 feet wide. volcanic doesn’t see much sun light, other than the sections under the powerline, so it is still deep and soft packed and powdery, this snow will last for weeks, so whether you ski or snowshoe come on up and enjoy these fabulous conditions while they last😃
