This is just one example of the wonderful work Status of Women Central - SWC and Violence Prevention South and Central do for our community and the residents of Grand Falls-Windsor.

Now, more than ever, it's important to educate ourselves and our loved ones about gender-based violence and the importance of consent, safety, and awareness.

If you are able, share space with other community members at the Gordon Pinsent Centre for the Arts on September 16 to "Take Back the Night" and highlight Sexual Awareness Week.

Communities are meant for togetherness. We are all in this together.

Sexual Violence Awareness week is September 13-19 and to highlight this week we are hosting our annual Take Back The Night event on September 16 with Violence Prevention South and Central and The Journey Project - NL. This year, we hope to have a march if Mother Nature is agreeable. We march to reclaim public spaces, support survivors and demand action to end gender-based violence.

The Journey Project will have their "Justice Reframed" - a photo journey Photovoice exhibit by survivors of sexual violence and intimate partner violence. The exhibit will be on display at the Gordon Pinsent Centre for the Arts.

We are delighted to host Pride Grand Falls-Windsor on September 26 and to provide a space where they can feel safe, valued, and welcome.

At the Exploits Valley Y, we embrace all members of our community and invite those visiting our facility to come as their true, authentic selves - with unconditional support, free of judgement.

Your Y. Your Time.

Always.

23/30 spots reserved. 7 spaces remaining 🫶 We are so excited to share another free community event thanks to the team at the Exploits Valley YMCA! They reached out to us directly and offered to host our community for a FREE swim on Saturday, September 26 from 4:00–5:00 PM.

We are incredibly proud to live in a community where organizations reach out to us and ask how they can create welcoming spaces and opportunities for our community. These gestures matter, and we are so grateful to the team at the YMCA for thinking of us and making this possible.

Space is limited to approximately 30 people, including anyone who will be staying in the viewing area.

If you would like to attend, please message the Pride Grand Falls-Windsor page with the names of everyone in your group who will be attending. We will be providing the YMCA with an attendee list, so you will not need to show ID when you arrive.

We'd appreciate any shares of this post so it reaches as many people as possible 🫶

Saturday, September 26
4:00–5:00 PM
Exploits Valley YMCA
13 Prices Avenue, Grand Falls-Windsor
FREE to attend

Come swim, hang out, bring the family, or just spend an hour together in a welcoming space.

Thank you to the Exploits Valley YMCA for reaching out to us and offering this to our community. We are very lucky to have community partners who don't wait to be asked, but instead reach out and say, "We'd like to do something" ❤️

As part of our continued commitment to building a safer community, our Y2C and YMCA buildings have now been restocked with brand-new naloxone kits, ensuring this life-saving resource is available when it is needed most.

Naloxone is a medication that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and give someone the critical time they need to receive emergency medical care. You don't need to be an expert to help — knowing how to use a naloxone kit could save a life.

We also want to remind everyone that free naloxone kits are available for pickup in Grand Falls-Windsor at:
📍 Central Regional Memorial Health Centre
📍 Mental Health & Addictions — 36 Queensway
📍 The Grand Falls Drug Store

We sincerely thank NL Health Services, Status of Women Central - SWC, and the Exploits Valley Community Coalition for inviting us to share space at their International Overdose Awareness Day event. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn more about overdose prevention and to see how to properly use naloxone in an emergency.

Building a safer community, together.
