We often congratulate our success with a trophy photo and high fives but there are other wins that deserve even more accolades.
We have a group of fellas in one camp this week that are having a tough slug. Real tough. Low sightings, just a grind and catching no breaks. Whatsoever. Brandons hunt maybe the slowest of them all. Today, on normally the last day finally a quality deer. A big deer. But the only deer at his stand we had asked him to pass if he showed up because he’s a bit young and wild potential. And not just a run of the mill 140-150 buck but a much larger 10x7 with drops and stickers. And Brandon passed him up. I can only imagine after 50 hours on stand how tough that was.
At our other camp today the same thing with repeat hunter and friend Doug. Long week and finally a deer that made him shiver. Young one. He passed. Dougs taken some great deer with us and has a new goal and knows exactly how to get there. Sometimes it happens day one. Sometimes it’s tough.
Richard and Artie are others. Tons of bucks, but not what they are looking for, and they have stuck to it.
It’s discipline like that that directly leads to someone’s buck of a lifetime. I’m not entirely sure the point of this post other than to recognize these guys that understand the goal, stay focused on the goal, let deer mature and are happy to do so. For their next hunt or maybe someone else’s. Thank you guys.
We’ll be taking these guys out for extra days without question so wish em luck!
*yes the video is shaky. Can you blame him and he was looking through binos and holding phone low. The shooting lane isn’t really that terrible!🙂
