Choosing the right week for a heliskiing trip is one of the most common questions we get.

Recently, a group of repeat guests asked our Heliskiing Operations Manager, Alex Wigley, to break down the nuances of skiing in March: specifically, how conditions shift from the beginning of the month to the end.

Whether you are actively researching or just starting to dream about your next powder fix, we wanted to share Alex’s response to help you choose the ideal week for your next heliskiing trip:

"The difference between the start of March versus the end of March comes down to a toss-up between deep snow and big terrain.

EARLY MARCH: You can expect a variety of conditions. You can still get big storms, but at this point in the season, the weather starts to stabilize. Temperatures are cooler, and the sun begins to show up more regularly. Early March offers the best chance for skiing deep, cold powder, though it comes with a slightly higher risk of storm days.

LATE MARCH: This past season, the final week of March was easily one of the best weeks of the entire year. While late March can bring corn skiing, we often still find cold, dry powder on North aspects and soft snow on East and West aspects. Last year, we were skiing knee-deep powder in massive terrain with low avalanche hazard! That week's guests may have gotten the best week of the season: see the photo above. The terrain is so big you may need to zoom in to see the tracks.....we definitely made some dreams come true that day! Historically, the last week of March offers the most stable weather, allowing us to access our biggest, high-alpine terrain more frequently.

MID-MARCH: The middle of the month sits right in the sweet spot between the two. You’ll most likely be skiing powder, enjoying beautiful sunny days, and benefiting from regular storms that reset the terrain.

I’ve had incredible skiing every week of the season, but every year is different!"

What week would YOU choose?

GUIDE RECAP - 2026 HELISKI SEASON
We had a decent 2026 season with some epic powder days....and a few days that weren't as great. We started off with an above average snowpack over the holiday season, that built the foundation for a succesful season of powder skiing.

The majority of BC suffered from tricky conditions in January, however, lucky for us, we started our season at the very end of January.

February and March had some incredible conditions, with more than one storm that brought over 100cm of fresh snow, filling glaciers and making perfect top to bottom conditions for guests.

This year we had the opportunity to ski more often in our far South Western tenure. Our single-group-per-helicopter program made exploring farther possible, and gave our guests the chance to ski through terrain that is not often visited by human beings. While out in this remote section of the tenure, our guides gave guests the opportunity to make first descents down variations of some of our most fabled terrain. Standout descents included Malibu Beach, Gold Town, and Inglewood, in perfect boot-top powder from top to bottom.

We finished the season in mid April, with one last large powder storm blanketing the tenure, and gifting our guests one of the best weeks of the season. The 2 photos in this post are from that trip. The lucky guests had the chance to ski the perfect trifecta of skiing;
- steep
- deep
- and long runs.

Standout favourites were Swinging Sporran and Switch.

We can't wait for the next season....we've already order a new fleet of skis!

In addition to 2027, our 2028 dates and rates are live!

Guide's Update: All 4 groups headed out today and enjoyed 5–10 cm of fresh snow, skiing a mix of soft powder and wind-pressed conditions. With temperatures around -10°C, moderate winds, and a mix of sun and cloud, it felt like a return to classic winter conditions.
