๐ September at Sunset
**We're Not Done Yet!**
Dear Members,
September has arrived, but don't start putting those clubs away just yet!
After an incredibly busy summer, we're heading into one of the most event-filled months of the season. September brings league finales, tournaments, friendly rivalries, great meals, and plenty more opportunities to enjoy the course before Mother Nature decides otherwise.
August gave us everything from packed patios and junior golfers to Club Championships, our first Wall of Fame inductions, and Dixon representing Sunset on the national stage.
Now it's September's turn.
Here's what's happening around Sunset...
๐ September Highlights
โณ September 9 โ Senior 4-Man 27-Hole Scramble
We're already sitting at **64 golfers**, but there's still room for more!
If 27 holes of golf aren't enough to tempt you, perhaps Montgomery's **Chicken & Ribs dinner** afterwards will do the trick.
Don't delayโregister in the Pro Shop today.
๐๏ธ September 14 โ Senior Men's League Year End
September 14 marks the final gathering of the Senior Men's League for the season.
For one last time, the Senior Menโwho apparently have never heard of carpoolingโwill fill the parking lot.
Oh yes...there will also be golf. ๐
They'll wrap up another great season with a final round followed by a delicious lunch and, undoubtedly, plenty of discussion about the shots that *almost* went in.
๐ฉ September 15 โ Senior Ladies League Year End
The Senior Ladies have enjoyed another wonderful season of golf, friendship, and fun.
They'll finish things off with one final round followed by a tasty lunch and an opportunity to enjoy each other's company before another league season officially goes into the books.
๐ฅ September 17 โ Par-Tee League Year End
Thursday afternoons on the Par 3 Course have been a blast for the ladies of the **Par-Tee League**.
There's been plenty of golf, no shortage of laughter, and perhaps a libation or two along the way.
On September 17, they'll trade their clubs for dinner and cocktails as they celebrate another fun season together, reminisce about the summer, and undoubtedly start comparing winter vacation plans.
โค๏ธ September 19 โ Couples Chapman
You hit yours.
I hit mine.
Then I hit yours.
You hit mine.
And finally, we decide which one we want to play with.
If that sounds like dialogue from something completely inappropriate...you wouldn't be alone. ๐
Fortunately, we're talking about **golf** and the Chapman format!
Once all the hitting, swapping, and decision-making is finished, we'll satisfy your other appetite with another delicious meal.
We currently have **20 couples registered**, and there's still room for more.
Interested? Call or stop by the Pro Shop and get you and your partner signed up.
โ๏ธ September 20 โ Ryder Cup
**Youngsters vs. Oldsters.**
The Oldsters are coming back to defend their title and plan on taking the Youngsters to church.
The Youngsters, however, have other ideas. They're planning to take the Oldsters to school and teach them a few lessons they apparently missed the first time around.
Someone's leaving with bragging rights.
Sign-up sheets are available in the Pro Shop.
This should be fun. ๐
๐ฉ September 24 โ Ladies League Year End Scramble
Ladies League membership grew this season, and their scrambles have been some of the most entertaining events on the calendar.
The season-ending scramble promises to be no exception.
Great golf. Creative challenges. Plenty of laughs. And, of course, a delicious meal to finish the evening.
If you haven't already registered, be sure to sign up in the Pro Shop the next time you're in.
โณ September 25 โ Mixed 2-Ball Scramble
The final Friday of September brings our **last Mixed 2-Ball Scramble of the season**.
The first two were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who participated, and the meals afterwards certainly didn't disappoint.
Let's finish the series with another great turnout!
Speak with the Pro Shop staff to register.
๐๏ธ September 26 โ Men's League Year End Scramble
Men's League usually belongs to Tuesday nights...
But apparently, when you're ending the season, you might as well **scramble everything** and play on Saturday.
With **78 league members**, organizers are hoping for a fantastic turnout to celebrate another great season.
And from what we're hearing, the season-ending dinner might be worth showing up for all by itself.
๐ Looking Ahead to October
Golf season may be winding down, but the fun at Sunset certainly isn't.
๐บ October 2 โ Oktoberfest Dinner
๐ October 16 โ A Taste of South America Dinner
๐ October 17 โ The Revenge
๐ฎ๐น October 23 โ Viva l'Italia Dinner

๐ค๏ธ August in Review
August delivered some beautiful summer weather and gave us plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Here are a few of the highlights...
๐ถ August 1 โ Patio Party
What a day!
The weather cooperated, **The Gravity Show** provided fantastic live music, and between the packed patio and the crowd on the lawn, Sunset was hopping.
The **Country 104.9 Cruiser** joined us with prizes and giveaways, while the kitchen kept everyone happy with appetizers.
And then there was that Fireball Golf Bag...
Congratulations to **Noah Redding**, who took it home!
All in all, it was exactly what a summer Patio Party at Sunset should be.
๐๏ธ August 4 โ Men's League Scramble
Sixty golfers took part in another competitiveโand highly entertainingโMen's League Scramble.
Golf, great food, and plenty of laughs made for another terrific evening.
A special thank you to **David McDonald Accounting** for generously sponsoring the dinner.
๐ August 5โ7 โ Dixon at the Canadian All Abilities Championship
Throughout the tournament, our Pro Shop staff kept hearing the same question:
**"How's Dixon doing?"**
We expected our Sunset members to be following along.
What surprised us was how many golfers who *weren't* members were asking too.
That says a lot about the impression Dixon has made on people.
When the tournament wrapped up, **Dixon Schoemaker finished an outstanding 6th out of 59 competitors in his division.**
We couldn't be prouder of the way he represented himself and Sunset on the national stage.
Way to go, Dixon!
โณ August 15 โ Cuzzy Camper Family Challenge
Another fantastic summer of Cuzzy Camps wrapped up with the **Cuzzy Camper Family Challenge**, bringing campers and their families together for a nine-hole tournament on the Par 3 Course.
Congratulations to this year's champions:
๐ **Dan, Matthew and William Adair**
More importantly, it was a wonderful way to celebrate another season of introducing young golfers to the game.
๐ด August 27 โ Ladies League Island Hopping Scramble
Bright colours and vacation attire took over the course for the Ladies League **Island Hopping Scramble**.
Fun contests, plenty of laughs, and a delicious dinner made for another memorable evening.
The only thing missing was the actual beach!
๐ August 29 & 30 โ Club Championships & Member Appreciation Weekend
This year's Club Championships welcomed **81 golfers competing across five divisions**.
Saturday brought good conditions and some impressive performances.
Sunday?
Well...Mother Nature apparently wanted a spot in the tournament.
The rain arrived around noon and continued to worsen throughout the afternoon, but our golfers showed incredible perseverance and finished the job.
Congratulations to our **2026 Club Champions:**
๐ **Ladies โ Dawn Fincher**
๐ **Senior Ladies โ Denise Shaeffer**
๐ **Men's โ Cain Haylow**
๐ **Senior Men's โ Bruce Brockelbank**
๐ **Junior Men's โ Connor Moran**
๐ Our First Wall of Fame Inductions
Sunday evening also marked a very special moment in Sunset's history as we celebrated the inaugural inductees into the **Goderich Sunset Golf Club Wall of Fame**.
We were proud to recognize:
**Paul & Shirley Baechler**
**Leroy Bedour**
**Mary Lynn Telford**
**The Gravett Family**
**Bob & Sharon Cousins**
**Dixon Schoemaker**
Each has contributed in their own way to the history, community, and spirit of Sunset, and it was wonderful to recognize them together.
๐ต September 2 โ Mary Gravett Memorial Swinging Grandmas Scramble
Yes, technically this happened in Septemberโbut it deserves a mention!
Eighty golfers participated in this year's **Mary Gravett Memorial Swinging Grandmas Scramble**.
For two days beforehand, the phones were ringing with questions about the storm supposedly headed our way.
Then Wednesday arrived...
Beautiful weather.
The ladies finished their golf.
**And then the power went out.** ๐
Apparently Mother Nature was looking out for the Granniesโshe waited until the golf was finished before pulling the plug.
Dinner was served and enjoyed by candlelight, making an already memorable tournament even more memorable.
Congratulations to this year's winning team:
๐ **Valerie McCrae, Carol Smith, Karin Burrows & Deborah Parker**
๐ถ September 5 โ Patio Party
What a perfect way to finish our Patio Party season!
**Happy Jack** provided the music and had everyone in great spirits, while Eloa served up three different pizzas straight from the BBQ.
Some of us may have sampled all three.
Purely for quality-control purposes, obviously. ๐
The Sangria was flowing, deals were found, and the patio was filled with exactly the kind of atmosphere we've loved seeing all summer.
Thank you to everyone who joined us!
โค๏ธ Thank You
As summer begins to wind down, we can't help but look back at what an incredible season it's been.
The tournaments, leagues, Junior Camps, Patio Parties, Date Nights, dinners and special events are only part of the story.
**You are the other part.**
Thank you for showing up, participating, sharing your ideas, bringing your friends and family, supporting our staff, and helping make Sunset the kind of place people genuinely enjoy spending time.
And don't worryโwe aren't finished yet.
September is packed, October has plenty in store, and there is still a lot of golf left to play.
So keep those clubs handy.
We'll see you at Sunset!
Warm regards,
Jim & Kim
