Crocus Hill Kayaking

Crocus Hill Kayaking Guided recreational sit-on-top kayak trips for individuals/ small groups. Located 10 miles North of This signals the start of river kayaking season!

Each spring, I enjoy standing on Crocus Hill, discovering the amazing newly emerged purple crocuses, with the beautiful view of the Drifting River below, as I gaze to the west. It really is beautiful here! Kayaking can be so peaceful and so relaxing. It can also be exciting, fun, and challenging (depending on the the beaver dams and the water level). With family or friends (while social distancin

g), getting exercise and enjoying nature (and sometimes spotting wildlife), I enjoy kayaking on the Drifting River, close to the Crocus Hill sign, located in the Municipality of Gilbert Plains, MB. I moved to Gilbert Plains in 2015. Every day here, I find so much more to love, especially on my kayak trips on the Drifting River. The Drifting River wanders its way right past Brian’s farm. From the very first time I explored the river, with my little yellow sit-on-top kayak, I couldn’t stop thinking about how beautiful and peaceful it was. I want to share this experience with others. As we found ourselves adjusting to life during the Covid-19 pandemic, it occurred to me that 2020 may be a very quiet summer for our family and others, in the wake of community events, sports, and festivals being canceled or postponed. One silver lining I focused on was that I would have more time to kayak on the weekends! I invested in some more kayaks and gear, with the dream that I could show people another amazing way to enjoy the beauty of Manitoba right here, near the farm, 10 miles north of Ashville on Highway #10. If you already love kayaking, or especially if you have never tried kayaking yet, please consider joining me this spring/summer on a guided recreational kayaking trip on the Drifting River with Crocus Hill Kayaking.

Teresa expertly navigates this part of the Drifting River at about the half way point of your Crocus Hill kayaking adventure. The current takes you through a shallow spot and forces you sideways into the river bank.

Thank you so much to Teresa, Dylan, Greg, Richard and Jayna for coming out on a smoky Saturday. We loved that Richard is very recently retired and proudly under “new management” who instructed him they must go on a kayak adventure! Jayna was definitely paying attention during the “how to hold your paddle” instructions! Looks great! Lower river levels were all part of the adventure!

“Tons of fun and the kids had a blast” tonight with Carmen, Anna, Teagan, and Cedric! Cedric led the way, the whole way and the group was super patient while our guide rearranged a beaver dam or 2, lol. The kids asked great questions and we soaked up the sunshine and beauty of “North of the correction line” Next time they might even ride their bikes here.
