These two old postures, almost the same , but with different weapons, sai/tekpi, and katana wakizashi
Now look to the third picture ,
It is the first move from Hyan Nidan kata ,
The first hand jodan yoko uke, while the second is Mae yoko kamae,
Now look at the incenit fencing technique from middle age Era in Europe ,
Posture almost identical
What us that tells us:
1.martial arts are related Body structure, body dynamics, body anatomy
2. All martial arts are connected
3. Man learned to use weapon as a body extention,
4. Good technique, with bare hands, is also good with weapons
The big question: how we learned that , on different Era, places , and weapons !
We must always go back to the roots

In karate fighting competition, elbow strikes are prohibited in all shapes , up to my best knowledge , even in Mauy Thai competition, elbow strikes considered the last choice , as if there is a gentlemen agreement between competitors , not to use it , unless....
Kata in shotokan consider an absolute form of teaching , ranking, documenting the art, in two katas in particular we see magnificent elbow strike , first kata : gojushiho Dai, move number 14 we have Migi tate empi jodan uchi,
The second kata : Gojushiho sho, also movement 14 , we have Migi tati empi uchi (front elbow upward strike) , these two katas are the highest in Shotokan, very advance level , up to my years in karate , we don't use elbow strikes even in friendly training , why: too dangerous!
Why I am saying all that , in silat harimau Barantai , I learned elbow strike with the earliest forms from Mahaguru Jo Mas Jack Othman , my beloved teacher
Why, in real fight all weapons are good , and in short you can not use it if you did not practice it
