Originally designed as a 9-hole course, this beautiful Par 70 is now one of the most challenging yet scenic 18-holes in Newfoundland and Labrador. Set on the rolling hills of the Gander Lake, this course, newly designed by Doug Carrick, opened for the 2001 golf season. Located directly off the Trans Canada Highway in Gander, this course provides you with large sculpted greens surrounded by large, deep, strategically placed sand traps. A modern clubhouse with a full restaurant and bar overlooking the lake provides a relaxing setting once you complete a round at Gander Golf Club.

Bob Skanes was one of the first members of the Gander Golf Club, and was involved in the development of this course since its inception. He has filled various positions on the executive of the club over the years. He actively participated in many of the improvement projects, starting from when it was a three-hole course, to nine holes and ultimately the full 18 holes. One of the roles he filled year over the year was Rules Chairman (completed the Rules Official Training) and marking the course for tournaments. Bob also held positions of the NLGA, and in 2016 was voted the NLGA Executive of the Year.

His golfing awards are many - 12 Gander Club Championships (three of them consecutive at ages 49, 50 and 51), Gander Sports Hall of Fame for Golf (and Curling), 2008 Golf NL Hall of Fame in the Athlete category. Bob has also represented NL at 15 RCGA National Golf Tournaments.

The members of the Gander Golf Club would like to acknowledge Mr. Robert Skanes as a Life Member.

This honour recognizes his many achievements and years of dedication. Thank you, Bob—we deeply appreciate everything you have done.

...and just like that, with the annual Des Power Fall Classic complete, our 2026 season has come to a close.

Congratulations to our Men’s Champions, Adam Walsh, Bill Molloy, Mark Burton and Jarrett Thorne, and our Ladies’ Champions, Margie Day, Marlene Kelly, Catherine Gill and Mary Murphy. Also, a shout out to the rest of our divisional winners - those pin placements were extra challenging!

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our staff for their hard work and commitment throughout a difficult season. Your efforts made the season possible and are greatly appreciated.

Enjoy a well-earned break, everyone. We look forward to welcoming you back for another season next year!

⛳ The season may be over, but there’s still work to be done on the course! 🏌️‍♂️

We’re looking for a few golfers and volunteers to help the greens crew with some post-season course work this Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, starting at 9 AM.

📍 Meet at the greenskeeper sheds
❄️ Bring your snow shovel
💪 Come ready to put in a few swings… just not with a golf club!

The Gander Golf Course will close for the season on Sunday the 4th of October 2026 after the Des Power Fall Classic.

The green staff will commence essential Winter maintenance on the course starting on the 5th of October. One of the main tasks is to aerate the greens which is both time consuming and labor intensive. If you are able to assist the greens staff with aerating please let us know as any help will be appreciated.

Also, once we close we will be spraying the whole course for weeds, which will take approximately 2 weeks, which means we can't have anyone playing on the course or have dogs on the course until after the 16th October.
