Silva Bay Fishing Derby The official Silva Bay Fishing Derby. The Derby was started in 1991 by Andre Lemieux. In 1992, Bob Meyer took over organizing and has been involved since.

For the past 20 years all the proceeds has been going to the Nanaimo River Hatchery. Good Luck!

Chris Wallace reeled in this 22.28 pound Chinook for dad Joe Wallace to win the Critter Cove 3 day package with his 7th largest Chinook of the derby. It was caught on a Tomic plug, which is also run by the owners of Critter Cove. Joe was thrilled!

Just a reminder of the 2026 Silva Bay Derby Rules
* All fish must be caught within the boundaries. Icarus, Neck Point, The Fingers, Entrance Island, Thrasher and Porlier and up to three miles offshore Gabriola/Nanaimo are inbounds. Inside waters from Northumberland to Porlier are inbounds, except for D.F.O. closed areas.
* Derby Time - Sunday, September 6th - dawn till 6PM. Monday, September 7th - dawn till 11:30AM.
* Weigh-in at Silva Bay Marina. All fish must be presented at the weigh-in station by 11:30AM on September 7th, 2026.
* No eviscarated (gutted salmon) will be eligible.
* Ties are decided in order of the first weighed.
* Prize ceremony to begin at approximately noon on Monday, September 7th, 2026.
* All salmon must be cleaned immediately after the weigh-in. Weigh times: 10AM until 6PM on September 6th or 9AM until 11:30AM on September 7th, 2026.
* 1st prize for the largest Chinook, is a 9.9 Yamaha outboard. There will be an additional 50 prizes presented for various categories of fish, plus draws. The draw prize is a Lowrance Pro 9 inch screen with active imaging transducer. To win the draw prize, you must be present at the prize ceremony.
* Derby tickets must be purchased prior to fishing and carried on your person.
* Failure to comply with Derby Rules and Regulations will result in immediate disqualification of all entrants in the boat.
* Ling prize will be awarded to the fish weighing closest to fifteen pounds without going over.
