The Gabriola Island Kyokushin Karate Club (Dojo) started informally i

n 2005 with a couple of island families getting together for fun and exercise. Twice weekly classes are now held at the Community Hall. Students are encouraged to train hard and challenge themselves while having fun. Respect, for self and others, is the underlying philosophy in the club. Gradings for new belt levels are held each spring and fall. There are opportunities to enter tournaments and attend camps. Special classes like beach training, breaking techniques, specialized self defence and tournament fighting are held periodically. We hold a yearly fundraising “kick-a-thon” that everyone is encouraged to participate in. Social activities are held after significant events and occasionally just for fun.

A huge thank you to everyone who was able to make it out for the annual Seawood dojo clean up!

OSU! 👊
My name is Mya. I started training in Kyokushin Karate in Banff when I was 5 years old, and it’s been a huge part of my life ever since.

I recently moved up to Grande Prairie for work, and after being here for a bit, I realized there isn’t really anything like Kyokushin here. I didn’t want to lose that part of my life, so instead of waiting, I decided to keep my journey going and start something here myself.

I’m opening up Kyokushin classes focused on real, full-contact training—something that challenges you mentally and physically, no matter your experience level.
Whether you’ve never trained before or you’re just looking for something more real, you’re welcome to come try it out.
No experience needed—just show up ready to work.

Message me if you’re interested or have any questions!
