2026-27 Training Camp, in partnership with MedStar Health, gets going this week.

Starting Thursday, all on-ice sessions at MedStar Capitals Iceplex will be open to the public and free of charge.

Once again, we are offering the CHA Development Academy, our after-school hockey program for players born from 2014 to 2020. This program is open to players from ANY school, not just FCA.

The players featured in this video came through this program and are among those who have gone on to play U13, U15 and U18 AAA hockey, represent Team New Brunswick and attend leading prep schools. We have loved watching them grow through the Development Academy and continue to find success at the next level!

This season, Matt Wright returns as lead instructor after spending the past two years coaching junior hockey. He will be joined by Gabe Guertler, Champions Hockey’s Head of Player Development, to lead one of the most important development programs we offer.

We look forward to hearing what tidbits of wisdom our Speaker Series will pass along to the team!

Introducing the U16 AAA Fredericton Caps Speaker Series

Player development goes beyond practices and games. Throughout the season, our players will take part in a speaker series, either online or in person before practice, featuring current and former players, coaches, scouts and hockey executives.

These conversations will give our players the opportunity to hear directly from people who have experienced different levels and areas of the game. Speakers will share advice, lessons learned and insight into the challenges, decisions and opportunities players may encounter along the way.

The series will be another important part of the U16 Caps experience, providing mentorship, introducing players to different paths in hockey and helping them develop both on and off the ice.

We are thrilled to announce our first group of speakers and look forward to announcing more soon!

As a new school year begins, we want to wish all our athletes and staff the very best in the year ahead!

We would also like to recognize our junior staff members for everything they have contributed to our programs. Throughout the Spring, Summer and into our September prep camps, they have supported our senior coaches, shared their knowledge and provided great mentorship to our younger athletes.

A special shout-out goes to Callum Shannon in Miramichi, who has been our main man in supporting our senior coaches and has spent many hours on the ice helping our younger athletes learn, improve and enjoy the game.

Thank you to all our junior staff for being such positive role models!

Strong hockey development starts with the fundamentals.

Our Core Skills Development program in Miramichi helps young players build confidence while improving their skating, shooting, stickhandling and passing. It is a great opportunity for players to become more comfortable on the ice, develop good habits and prepare for the hockey season ahead.

U16 AAA Caps Selection Camp starts this Sunday!

One final call for 2010 and 2011 born players interested in trying out for the U16 AAA Fredericton Caps for the 2026-27 season.

At the request of our coaching staff, we have secured an additional ice time for an intersquad scrimmage to give coaches more opportunity to evaluate players and goalies in game situations.

Jerseys with assigned numbers will be provided to each player for duration of the selection process. Players are asked to bring their own socks.

Tonight was all about the finer details.

With tryouts creeping up and a new hockey season around the corner, our Face-Off Clinic gave players a chance to focus on one of those small parts of the game that can make a big difference.

Technique, timing, body position, puck possession and having a plan before the puck even drops. It’s the kind of detail that can help you stand out during tryouts and carry over into the season ahead.

We’re happy to welcome Alex Ouellet as a Senior On-Ice Instructor with Champions Hockey, working with our programs in Miramichi and the Chaleur Region!

Originally from Moncton, Alex brings a strong background in both coaching and player development. Since 2018, he has been part of the Tom Duffey Hockey School in Halifax, where he has worked his way into the role of Lead On-Ice Instructor. He has also coached at Mount Academy, including serving as the school’s Spring Hockey Coordinator.

This season, Alex is also joining the Chaleur Lightning of the Maritime Hockey League as an Associate Coach.

Alex will be a familiar face on the ice as we continue to grow our programming across northern New Brunswick. We’re looking forward to having him work with our players and be part of the Champions team!
