The 14UG Spartans Apex team competed in the 56 team National tournament in Moncton this past weekend. The girls had a great first day, going 3-0 in matches, but still putting us in a tough power pool on day 2 with Leaside (Ont2) and our friendly provincial rivals in MadVic and Cyclones Arctic. We lost a tough one to MadVic in 3, then beat Arctic 2-0 and then lost another battle in 3 to Leaside, putting us into 6th overall in Division 1 going into the Sunday quarterfinals. This matched us up with Humana Heat (Ont1). The team battled hard, but could not come out on top, losing 2 straight. Our girls came 5th overall out of 56, which is still an amazing finish by one of the only teams that rolls with 12 players every match and with every player contributing on the court. There were lots of tears at the end — not for losing the game, but the fact that this magical season has finally come to an end when we don’t want it to. 11 tournaments, 7 gold medals, 2 silver and a bronze — a season we’ll always remember for not only its success on the court, but on great friendships made and truly amazing player growth. Thanks to our players and our parents on what has been an amazing 9 months together!
