Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo are two very closely related martial art styles. In fact, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu actually evolved from the older, more combative style of Kosen Judo. Brought to Brazil in the early 1900′s by Mitsuyo Maeda, the versatile and effective grappling system Maeda taught was refined and spread by the famous Gracie family. While BJJ tends to focus more on ground fighting skills, Judo relies more on standing throws and takedowns. We offer both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes in order to provide our students with a well-rounded curriculum here at Rodrigo Resende BJJ Academy. Both arts are great for kids and teens, and are also very effective methods of self-defense for adults. Come Join Us to Learn Authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! Bringing authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from my home country of Brazil to West Edmonton is my passion and our mission here at Rodrigo Resende BJJ Academy. I grew up practicing Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, and I can honestly say that my practice and training shaped my outlook on life to help me become a more positive person. My goal for you and your family is to share both of these wonderful systems of martial art and self-defense in a manner that honors my instructors, Master Takeshi Miura, 9th degree red belt in Judo and Master Max Trombini, 5th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
