Happy Birthday to our Head Sensei, Keith Bibbey!

Today we celebrate a remarkable leader, mentor, and friend who has dedicated so much of his life to the growth and success of Tolide. Since taking the helm at just 18 years old, Keith has guided generations of judoka with unwavering dedication, patience, and passion.

Through countless classes, competitions, gradings, and life lessons, he has built more than a judo club, he has built a community. His commitment to the principles of judo, his belief in his students, and his ability to inspire others have left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to step onto the mat with him.

Thank you, Keith, for your years of service, leadership, and friendship. Your influence reaches far beyond judo, helping shape confident, respectful, and resilient people.

Wishing you a very happy birthday filled with family, friends, laughter, and all the appreciation you so richly deserve.

Happy Birthday, Sensei Keith!

What an awesome day at the EYJS Tournament!

It was fantastic to see so many competitors on the mats today, including lots of new faces stepping up to challenge themselves. Every athlete showed tremendous effort, determination, and sportsmanship, making for an exciting day of judo.

A huge thank you goes out to all of the coaches, officials, volunteers, and team members who donated their time and energy to make the tournament a success. Events like these simply wouldn’t happen without your dedication and support.

Congratulations to everyone who competed today. Whether it was your first tournament or your fiftieth, you represented your clubs with pride and gave it your all. We can’t wait to see you back on the mats in the fall!

Last night marked the final regular season practice of judo before we break for the summer and return in September.

At our club, we take our judo seriously but we also know how important it is to have fun. Tonight featured a few moustaches (some stick-on, some not, and a few that seem to grow naturally year-round!), plenty of laughs, a some randori and our year-end awards presentation.

Most importantly, it was a chance to celebrate the hard work, perseverance, sportsmanship, and growth shown by all of our judoka throughout the season.

Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic year. Enjoy a well-deserved summer, and we’ll see you back on the mats in September!

What a great evening at Tolide Judo Club!

Tonight we had the pleasure of presenting grading certificates to 29 members who recently achieved their next belt rank. Seeing so many new yellow belts lined up to receive their certificates was a wonderful reminder of the hard work, commitment, and determination our athletes bring to every practice.

Promotion is an important milestone in a judoka’s journey, and we are proud of every member who earned their new rank. Thank you to our coaches, volunteers, and families who continue to support these athletes every step of the way.

We’re already looking ahead to the EYJS Monthly Tournament on June 13 and are excited to see many of our newly promoted judoka take to the mats and showcase their progress.

Congratulations to all 29 promoted members, we’re proud of you!

Some dreams never really leave us.

Heart felt congratulations to Shane Dauphinee on earning silver in Veteran -90kg at the Canadian National Judo Championships — his very first national medal!

As a teenager competing at nationals, the closest Shane ever came to the podium was 5th place. Back then, like so many young athletes, the dream was simple: one day stand on that national podium.

In 2007, Shane stepped away from judo, and life moved forward. But somewhere deep down, that dream stayed with him.
Years later, he returned to the sport older, wiser, tougher, and carrying all the life experience that comes with time. And this week, after years of hard work, setbacks, growth, and perseverance, that dream finally came true.

What makes this story even more meaningful is that Shane was coached at nationals by his childhood best friend and fellow judoka, Jordan Boothman. From training together as kids to standing matside together at Canadian Nationals as adults, it’s the kind of full-circle moment that reminds us what sport is really about.

The medals matter. But so do the friendships, the memories, the years of showing up, and the courage to try again.

Sometimes dreams happen quickly. Sometimes they take decades. But they are always worth chasing.

Congratulations Shane. Your entire judo community is proud of you.
