March break for us is always, trail breaking, camp restock, firewood detail; all in preparation for welcoming our returning and new clients and hoping to make their hunting trip, the best experience, possible.

This year we were finally able to get to one of our camps that was engulfed in last years forest fire, as you can see, the contents of our boxes, didn’t fair too well. It wasn’t a total loss; 2 out of 5 boxes were salvageable, but tents and aluminum frames melted, but somehow this propane bottle didn’t send this whole box into orbit!

Having family along for abit of fishing fun is always a highlight and we can’t thank our daughter, Skylar, and her other half, for doing so
Much of the heavy work breaking trails etc. Doug’s not a young man anymore and any help he can get is welcomed and appreciated.

Plenty of snow and burnt trees, but even so, many critter tracks!

Pressure canning meals for this fall. Before, I did a lot of dehydrating, but for convenience and quality, i prefer canning, although heavier and definitely takes up more space in the paniards. Now if I could afford a freeze dryer……. 😊

I would love to hear if you do this and what your favorite thing to pressure can is.

Doug and I are sending sincere best wishes for 2026, to our clients, friends and family! A thank you also goes out to each of you for all the support, kinship and love you bring to our lives

We hope the holiday season was all you wished it to be and that a hunting trip snuck its way into your stocking!

If not, there are a few opportunities to book with us over the next few seasons, so don’t hesitate to reach out!

With gratitude, Doug and Beth.

2026 is booked! Thank you to everyone who not only booked with Doug and I and entrusted us with providing, for some, a bucket list check mark, but to everyone else who inquired and told us “we heard so many good things about Tetsa River Outfitters”, we hope that down the road we might still meet you in person!

2027 is shaping up to be another booked up fall so don’t delay!

It’s deer season here in Fort St John, and Doug and I’s opportunity to do some hunting for ourselves, I am including a few pictures of some of our past bucks. If you’re out there, good luck!

This is what one hind quarter of Doug’s bull elk produced for the freezer/pantry. I pressure canned 7 quarts of elk stew and the mixing bowl is a combination of ground elk along with some pork that I am mixing up for some cracked pepper and garlic sausage. It took us three afternoons, but the elk is processed and ready for us to share and enjoy for the coming year.

So this happened this morning, on our property back home! It’s been almost 20 years, maybe longer😀since Doug has had the opportunity to harvest a bull elk, it was his lucky day, as trust me there was no skill involved today, besides placing a good shot!

Father and Son Duos! We’ve had quite a few over the years, sharing that bond and making it stronger through their mutual love of land, hunting and each other.

Doug and I can’t think of anything better than helping them find success in our backyard!

What an awesome hunt to end the year!

Should have bought a lottery ticket!

Summit Lake wildfire nearly took out the lodge at Mile 375 that has been in my family since my parents moved here in 1976, however, by luck and by golly it skirted around the lodge, hit the valley that goes directly to moose camp, and burnt right to the ridge above camp, and did a slow crawl down the face, eventually burning itself out!

The ride in had me looking for Mad Max in his apocalyptic attire, as it truly was otherworldly.

The animal kingdom never ceases to surprise though as there was plenty of track on the trails and for the first time in a long time we had multiple cows and calves visit us in camp (even a legal bull and his young sidekick)! Elk and deer dropped by as well.

So it’s business as usual, but I do think I’ll still go test lady luck and buy that ticket.

It’s been a stressful week since the wildfire started burning north of Tetsa River. Today it has enveloped nearly 40,000 hectares and at the time of this posting, word is, the lodge and everyone’s seasonal and permanent homes in the area, are secure. Hoping the worst of the fire has passed, but I’m sure it’s too soon to let the guard down.

Moose camp status is unknown.

Pictures are not mine.

When I was a teenager, Grade 9, to be exact, my dad and I spent the winter together, running the trapline and keeping tabs on the horses that ranged in what we now refer to as Moose Camp.

At that time there wasn’t a cabin but in the next few years dad built one so that he had somewhere to stay the night when trapping and also as a base camp for the hunting business. Two cabins were built in the same spot as fire took the first one and so the little log one that many of you have stayed in was built.

Rustic as all get out, with moss chinking, dark and knotty logs, it was a welcome sight at the end of many long, weather exposed, days.

It’s been ravaged by porcupines, squirrels and a grizzly bear that didn’t see the purpose of a door and a cow moose that fought her reflection through the window and won!

We’ve probably invested too much love, sweat and moolah into it, but who or what doesn’t deserve some pampering after 45 years of service.

My daughter said my dad would be proud, no one could have said anything nicer, and I believe he would be. I hope our children and grandchildren enjoy the life Doug and I have.

Thanks Dad for starting it all.

This place is always on my mind!

It’s definitely a love/hate relationship, especially as Doug and i’s days on earth grow shorter.

Every year we struggle mentally and physically to get ourselves into the mindset that we can still DO This!

Agonizing months of preparation coupled with self doubt and loss of motivation, has always ended with the most obscene feelings of gratification and accomplishment when we place that foot in the stirrup for the first time, every fall. We made, we love it and we wouldn’t be anywhere else.

If your thinking of a self-guided hunt for this fall, one where you too, can experience the incomparable feelings that are soul nurturing, in one of the most beautiful areas of BC, get in touch!

None of us live forever. Do the thing!
