THE FUTURE HOME OF FORT ST. JOHN SOCCER CLUB
More than a pitch - a place to call home
Over the last 25 years that FSJSC has been in existence, we have been pretty good at adapting. We've played on gym floors, adapted our sessions to whatever space was available, worked around facility schedules, and found creative ways to keep kids playing through our long northern winters.
And we've made it work. Not because the spaces and times were perfect, but because the people who make up our soccer community believe that kids deserve the opportunity to play, compete if they desire, and grow within and outside of the game.
We've watched little ones pull on their soccer socks for the first time, players discover confidence they didn't know they had, friendships form, and help to develop coaches who give countless hours to help kids fall in love with the game.
Now imagine for a moment, what we could do if our space was optimal for our greater long term vision...
The proposed new indoor fieldhouse would become the future home of Fort St. John Soccer Club, and for us, that's a pretty exciting thing to imagine.
While Futsal has been a great part of our programming, and it's a wonderful game in its own right, playing on sport tiles in the Curling Club was a solution to a problem we've faced for years, finding enough appropriate indoor space to play soccer.
An indoor turf field would give our players consistent access to a safe, appropriate playing surface, allowing them to train, develop, and compete in an environment that reflects how soccer is played in communities across Canada.
It could mean more opportunities for our youngest players, more room for our adult members to keep playing, optimal training and more competitive games even for those who do not travel. It could bring in more camps and more chances to welcome people into our soccer community. Perhaps most importantly, it would give us the opportunity to plan for the future instead of constantly working around the space we currently operate in.
But this isn't just about soccer. And it shouldn't be.
Think about how much time our families spend driving kids to practices, cheering from sidelines, volunteering, coaching, and making sure their children have somewhere to belong, the opportunities that sports and recreation have given so many of us growing up in the North Peace.
For some kids, it's about becoming a better soccer player or athlete. For others, it's finding their community, building confidence, or simply having somewhere they look forward to going every week.
A new aquatic facility and indoor fieldhouse has the potential to create more of those opportunities, across different sports, activities, ages, and interests. It is an investment that deserves thoughtful conversations about what our community needs to grow and thrive and what we want Fort St. John to look like in the years ahead.
We're proud of what our soccer community has built, but we are also very excited to imagine what the next chapter could look like, because at the end of the day, we're not just trying to build better soccer players. We're trying to give youth and adults a place to play, a place to belong, and a community they will always be proud to call home.
On October 17, our community has an important decision to make. We encourage everyone to learn about the proposed project, understand the financial implications, ask questions, and have their say.
💙 Together, we decide.
