As the school year comes to a close and we gear up for the summer camps, here is a little bit about Coach Dean.
Grew up in a small town of 600 people in Daysland Alberta. Started playing hockey at age 3 and continued playing in Daysland till age 12. We drove the short distance to Camrose to play Bantam hockey and I played there till I was 17. I played 4 years of Junior A hockey with the Camrose Kodiaks, winning the league 3 times and playing in the Royal Bank Cup 2 times for the National Title in Canada. I earned a NCAA Division 1 scholarship to Bowling Green State University in the CCHA. After college I played Professional hockey in the SPHL and ECHL before retiring due to concussions. I soon began doing hockey development and teaching Power Edge Pro since 2012. I am currently a development partner with Fort McMurray Minor Hockey since 2020 working with players from age 6 all the way to working with Professional athletes currently. I am a level 3 PEP certified instructor. I have coached minor hockey teams in the past and was skills and devlopment coach with the Junior A Camrose Kodiaks in the past.
Here is a tidbit of what I teach:
Coach Dean’s sessions are designed to get players out of their comfort zone and expect the unexpected as they stickhandle through and around the apparatuses while getting an endless amount of puck touches. All players can skate, but the ones who can stickhandle with the puck flawlessly while regaining speed and agility, will separate them from the rest. With over 35 years of hockey experience , I combined what I have learned over that time with the PEP R.C.T making you a more complete player.
Reactive Countering Training™ (R.C.T.) wires what traditional training methods often overlook. This progressive system develops synchronized hands, feet, vision, and brain activity to enhance split-second decision-making. By deliberately forcing mistakes and requiring real-time adjustments, it cultivates spatial awareness, recovery skills, and deep learning. R.C.T.™ reinforces high-reaction, high-response capabilities in live situations, building instinctive ex*****on rather than robotic repetition—ensuring players perform with adaptability and precision when it matters most.
Joining Dean at his summer camp is former NHL player Richard Petiot! Come learn from the coaches that have played a the highest levels and know what it takes to get there….
