Five local girls played in a Tier 1 soccer showcase in Vancouver over the Easter weekend. The players are part of Whitecaps Academy teams which draws athletes from the Kootenays to Lethbridge. The local girls train with the KESA (Cranbrook) affiliated Whitecaps program. The Premiere Cup is an international competition that attracts the best teams from this part of North America.

Maeve Hammett, Frankie La Peter and Ava Mattersdorfer didn’t fare as well but had close hardfought games in the shadows of the Christine Sinclair Athletic Centre.

This spring the Elk Valley will have its first “Girls Only” Division of the Rocky Mountain Soccer League - open to all girls grade 6-10. This is rec soccer and all abilities are encouraged to come out and play on Wednesday evenings through May, June and September.

EVASU is not a new soccer club. It is a Union of existing Soccer Clubs and communities to lead older (u12 and over) youth soccer. It was born this year when Alberta Soccer Clubs that were in BC were asked to switch to BC soccer.

After u12 no community in the Elk Valley has sufficient participation to host its own league. Instead these communities have played in the Rocky Mt Recreational Soccer League for many years.

By working together we hope to provide leadership and support for Recreational soccer close to home, and improve and develop Rep/Travel soccer opportunities for ALL players and Clubs in the Elk Valley.

For the first time in recent history there will be a “Girls Only Division” that competes between communities, along with the existing Rocky Mt League. We hope everyone who wants to play and have some fun with soccer in the Elk Valley will come out.

We appreciate the leadership and guidance of all the Clubs involved. If you would like to help out or volunteer with this u12 and over RECREATIONAL (not travel / rep soccer) LEAGUE please reach out to us.

***GIRLS ONLY DIVISION***
Grade 6,7 and 8 (Born in 2009-11)

New for the 2023 Spring RML season we are going to have a GIRLS ONLY soccer division.

We hope to have at least 6 teams that will play small-sided soccer against each other from Elkford, Sparwood, Fernie and Jaffray; and we may have other REC level teams to play against from CNP/Pincher Creek and Cranbrook/Kimberley.

We will play 6v6 to 9v9 soccer depending on team size on any given night.

Season to run WEDNESDAY EVENINGS May 3rd to June 21 & continue September to October, winter-weather permitting.

We will enter REC level teams in the Sam Steele Soccer Tournament in Cranbrook June 16th weekend.

The focus will be on fun and camaraderie in a grassroots REC soccer league where all players are welcome!
