The East Hants Sr Penguins are thrilled to announce that our captain, Taylor Burke, is officially locked in and returning for the upcoming season!

A natural-born leader who has worn a ‘C’ at virtually every level of his hockey journey, “Burkey” brings elite experience, character, and pedigree back to our locker room, including five NHL camp invites and years of proven leadership.

Burkey is coming off an incredible 2025–26 campaign where he took home both Team MVP and NSSHL League MVP honors. He set the standard on the ice every single night:

🚨 🐧SIGNING ALERT: ZACH SILL COMMITS TO THE PENS! 🐧🚨

The East Hants Sr. Penguins are thrilled to officially announce a monumental addition to our roster for the upcoming season: former NHL forward Zach Sill has committed to the Sr Penguins!

Hailing from just down the road in Brookfield, Zach brings an elite resume of veteran leadership, relentless work ethic and pro-level grit back home to Nova Scotia.

Beyond what he brings on the ice, we are extremely excited that Zach will have the opportunity to play right here close to home in front of his kids, family and local community.

Adding a player and person of Zach’s caliber is not only a massive milestone for our organization, but a huge win for the entire Nova Scotia Senior Hockey League (NSSHL).

Throughout Zach’s professional career, he suited up for 93 NHL games split between the Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals. He also has 483 AHL games and 269 professional games in Europe.

Zach’s full-200-foot game, face-off dominance and championship-calibre pedigree make this one of the most exciting signings in league history.

🐧 WELCOME LIAM ANDREWS 🐧

The East Hants Penguins are excited to announce the signing of Liam Andrews for the 2026-27 season!

Liam joins the Penguins after an outstanding Junior B career with the Cole Harbour Colts, where he developed into one of the league’s most dynamic offensive players. Last season, he exploded for 33 goals and 58 points in just 30 regular season games, then elevated his game even further in the playoffs with 13 goals and 26 points in 12 games.

A proven scorer with speed, skill, and a relentless work ethic, Liam brings a young set of legs and plenty of offensive firepower to our lineup. We’re excited to see him make the jump to senior hockey and continue his development right here in East Hants.

🚨 HOMETOWN SIGNING 🚨

The East Hants Penguins are proud to announce the signing of hometown goaltender Marcus Pettipas for the 2026-27 season!

Marcus joins the Penguins for his first season of senior hockey after building an impressive resume throughout his career. A product of East Hants Minor Hockey, he posted outstanding numbers at every level, including:
🥅 .930 SV% & 1.79 GAA with the Sackville/East Hants Kings U16 AAA
🥅 .920 SV% & 2.17 GAA with the Kings U16 AAA
🥅 .912 SV% & 2.99 GAA during his final season with the East Hants Penguins of the NSJHL

Marcus has consistently proven he can give his team a chance to win, and we’re excited to welcome another local player back home.

This season, Marcus will begin his senior hockey career alongside veteran netminder Bryan Gillis, giving the Penguins a strong local punch between the pipes. The combination of experience and youth will be a tremendous asset as we continue building toward another successful season.

🐧 WELCOME BACK TO EAST HANTS, SCOTT SACK! 🐧

The East Hants Penguins are proud to announce the commitment of Scott “Scotty” Sack for the 2026-27 season!

A product of the East Hants Minor Hockey Association, Scotty has deep roots in our hockey community. He was set to make his return to East Hants last season, but unfortunately, an injury sidelined him for the entire year.

Now healthy and ready to get back on the ice, we couldn’t be more excited to have Scotty back where it all started.

A true Senior Hockey veteran, Scotty brings a wealth of experience to our dressing room, including two Allan Cup appearances. His experience, compete level and leadership will be a valuable addition to our group.

Off the ice, Scotty resides in Sipekne’katik with his wife and their three children.

We’re excited to have a veteran like Scotty back in the East Hants lineup and look forward to seeing him wear the Penguins jersey this season!

🐧 WELCOME BACK, RILEY SPEARS! 🐧

The East Hants Sr. Penguins are excited to welcome Riley Spears back for the 2026-27 season!

After joining the Penguins midway through last season, Riley made an immediate impact, recording 4 goals, 3 assists, and 7 points in 13 games. His speed, relentless work ethic and willingness to compete every shift quickly made him a valuable part of our lineup.

Riley brings youthful energy and fresh legs to the roster, adding pace and intensity whenever he’s on the ice. We’re excited to see him continue building on a strong first season in a Penguins jersey.

Welcome back, Riley! We’re looking forward to another great season.

🐧Welcome Back, Bryan Gillis🐧

We are thrilled to announce the return of East Hants born goaltender Bryan Gillis to the East Hants Sr Penguins! Bryan, a seasoned player in senior hockey since 2012, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to our team.

Throughout his remarkable career, Bryan has:

Competed in the Allan Cup four times, clinching the title once and earning the prestigious Tournament MVP award.

Won the New Brunswick Sr Hockey League in 2018.

Won in the Newfoundland Herder in 2025.

In addition to his impressive hockey credentials, Bryan is a dedicated local minor hockey coach who spends countless hours volunteering in our community, fostering the next generation of players. He also proudly serves as the President of the Penguins organization, ensuring our team continues to thrive both on and off the ice.

His presence not only elevates our game but also inspires our younger players with his dedication and commitment. We can’t wait to see him back in action, leading the Penguins to new heights.
