The site fencing being donated to use for the playground excavation is going to be delivered around 11 tomorrow. There are 53 panels that need to be unloaded. If you are able, please come to the hall at 11 tomorrow, Saturday May 23 and lend us a hand. Thank you in advance!

Playground initiative update! We’re thrilled to share that the recreation space is officially moving ahead! Excavation is set to begin the last week of May beside the Elko community hall, with installation taking place throughout the month of June. If all goes according to plan, we’re excited to welcome the community to the grand opening in mid-July.

This project has been an incredible example of what can happen when a community comes together, and it’s amazing to finally see the vision becoming reality. In just a couple of short months, families, children, and community members will have a brand new recreation space (including a playground and multi-use pad for basketball, pickleball and floor hockey).

We’ll be reaching out to the community members who purchased benches as part of the project soon — thank you for helping leave a lasting mark on this space.

As we head into the final stretch, we still have a few fundraising efforts underway to help us reach the finish line. Our bottle drive is ongoing, and we’ll also be hosting another walk/bike-a-thon, with details to be announced soon.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, donated, volunteered, shared, and cheered this project on along the way. Your support has made this possible, and we truly cannot wait to celebrate this exciting new community space with all of you this summer!

Exciting update from the Elko Playground Initiative!

Well Elko — we did it! Our fundraising efforts have been successful, and we are thrilled to share that in December we secured a $200,000 grant from the Columbia Basin Trust.

Installation of the new playground and multi-use recreation pad will begin in June, and the space will be located next to the Elko Hall.

Over the coming weeks, our committee will be organizing and connecting with everyone who generously offered in-kind donations of equipment and materials. For those who purchased a bench, we will be in contact closer to the installation date. We are also planning a few more community fundraising events to help cover the remaining funds required for finall items of the project.

Once everything is finalized, we look forward to sharing many well-deserved thank-you's with the incredible individuals and businesses who helped make this happen.

We can’t thank the community enough for your support and enthusiasm throughout this process. It’s going to be a wonderful addition to Elko — just in time for summer.
