Race 8 Recap

A disappointing end to an otherwise great day. The number 6 Tim Hortons kart was wicked fast all day.... until an unfortunate incident in the Final. πŸ‘ŽπŸ»

In the Pre-final I managed to gain 2 positions overall, finishing 2nd in a great, clean race.

The final, however, was not so clean. Right after we went green, contact from somewhere mid-pack going into the hairpin resulted in a chain reaction that sent everyone behind the top few karts spinning, creating a giant gap behind the leaders. I thought I got lucky with just the bit of contact, but almost immediately after clearing the hairpin, I lost speed and knew something was wrong. I did my best to keep going, but ended up pulling off due to a problem with the axel which ended my day.

A DNF was definitely not something I needed at this stage of the game, but luckily it didn't set me TOO far back in the points. Hopefully we can make something happen in the next few races before the season ends.

It's not over until it's over. πŸ˜‰

Race 7 Recap

The race day was overall pretty successful. I ran consistent 41 second laps for time all day, even having the fastest lap at one point.

We faced a bit of a stressful situation after the second practice when my seat broke clean away from the strut, but in true "race family" form, multiple fellow racers and mechanics jumped in and helped take allllll the lead off, change the seat and re-mounted the lead and transponder, just in time to run out to the grid and fire up just as we were to roll out. Qualified 3rd. Huge thank you to Kyptyn Hopkins Darrin Hopkins, Nick Jewell, Ian Joyce, Alexis Budel Guy Budel Jeremy Lukianchuk and Dad for the assist! πŸ™πŸ»

The pre-final was frustrating to say the least, as I was nearly taken out by a driver that must have figured that the only way to beat me was to run me off the track. Luckily, I maneuvered through it without crashing, but the Race Director saw it all and acted accordingly. The other driver got a pretty hefty penalty. I don't tolerate that kind of driving, and I made sure he knew it. 🀬

Things always seem to work out in the end though, and in the Final, myself and a handful of other drivers who prefer to race each other on skill and for the fun of the sport, managed to drive to form a draft train and drive away from Chaos by a pretty decent margin. The rest of the race was pretty fun, with a few lead changes and good, clean racing. A sprint for the line landed me with a 4th place finish. Congrats to Grayson Jewell on the win. πŸ‘πŸ»

SWEEP!!
Not one, but TWO WINS this weekend!!! 🏁🏁
It was even hotter today at Battle at the Beach, so the decision was made by organizers to start a bit earlier in the morning and skip one practice to speed up the day. I had some extra fans in the stands today and the kart was fast. Another fierce battle ended with a sprint to the finish between me, Jeremy Lukianchuk and Grayson Jewell but I managed to take the checkered once again for a sweep of the weekend!

As a result of the two wins, I also landed in first on the podium for the weekend series, adding a plaque to the two medals, and some cold hard cash!

It was a super fun weekend with lots of shenanigans, fireworks, a redneck truck bed pool.... but we'll share more later!

Special Thank You to this weekends race sponsors Merle and Lyle Brooks who were in from BC!

And as always, thank you to my team sponsors for the support!

FINALLY! 🏁πŸ₯‡

It was a ridiculously hot day today for race 5 and part 1 of Battle at the Beach. The kart did not love the extra grip (due to the outdoor temps), which resulted in some slower lap times, so adjustments needed to be made. I got everything feeling dialed-in though, despite the heat. πŸ₯΅ From a 5th place start in the pre-final, I made my way to the front. I had a crazy but fun battle with Kyptyn Hopkins that came down to the wire, where I managed to get him by 0.013 of a second. We weren't even 100% sure who got it until we came around for the cool down lap to see who Flag-man Dave would hand the checkered to.

Feels good to be back! 🏁 Now let's keep it going!!

Thank you so much to my sponsors for getting me here! πŸ™πŸ»

Well, it hasn't been the best start to the season. We started struggling with engine issues in Race 1. The engine would be running ok, lap times great, and then all of a sudden it would just die. We would adjust some things, think we found the issue, go out and do some good laps, only to have it happen again. Ultimately this process ended up happening for 3 races in a row, with the 6 kart getting DNF's in all 3 of the first races.

Race 4 was supposed to be a rainy day and I had high hopes that we'd finally figured out the engine issues and could get out and have a good race with the rain tires on. It didn't start out good. The engine stopped AGAIN in practice. Running out of options, and with the help of Jordan Sobetski we pulled apart the carburetor and found a tiny pebble in it.

I went into the pre-final in 11th place due to the engine failure in the previous session and fought my way back up to 4th - but the engine held out to the checkered! 🏁 Finally!

The final was an all-out battle between me, Carlos Sison and Timothy with Kyptyn Hopkins hot on our tails. I spent most of the race locked on to their bumpers in 3rd place, taking the lead for the final 5 laps, only to get beat at the wire in a full on sprint between the top 4 karts. After 3 DNF's, 3rd place felt pretty damn good! Thanks for a great race fellas!

Thanks again to Nick Jewell, Guy Budel, Brett Keilback
Ian Joyce and Jordan Sobetski for all of your help to get the engine running again and getting me back in the hunt.

Battle at the Beach double-header is up next THIS weekend. Let's GO!! πŸ–
