Dear Gymnastics Families,
I hope you are all doing well.
I’m reaching out to share an important update regarding our training facility, the Guy-Donnelly Sportex. As many of you know, this space is home to our program and many other community groups. Over time, the building has experienced significant wear and requires ongoing maintenance and repair.
The non-profit organization that operates the Sportex continues to work hard to keep the facility open and accessible. They have been very supportive of user groups by keeping rental fees reasonable, even as costs increase. With approximately 50–60 athletes in our program, we are proud to be one of the many groups that benefit from this space.
The Sportex will be presenting to the MD of Smoky River to provide an update on their current operating status and to raise awareness about the facility’s needs. This is not a request for major funding, but rather an opportunity to inform the community about the facility and how widely it is used.
One of the key challenges they are currently facing is that the building does not have replacement insurance. Their goal is to remain as self-sufficient as possible; however, they are hoping to explore options that could allow them to insure all or part of the facility moving forward.
As part of their presentation, they are gathering approximate participation numbers from user groups like ours to help demonstrate annual usage. They have also invited community members to attend and show support.
